Laboratory Research Technician II

 

The Laboratory Research Technician II will be responsible for performing fluorescence imaging experiments with the spinning disk confocal microscope on Drosophila brains. The incumbent will also be responsible for care of Drosophila, including making crosses when necessary, and handling reagents and solutions required for experiments. Finally, the position may also involve conducting Drosophila behavior experiments. The position requires a Bachelors' degree in a science related field (biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, etc.), or at least 2 years relevant experience in a biological or medical research setting. The incumbent will maintain and breed Drosophila. Also, the incumbent will participate in the design and perform experiments, collect data, and analyze data on computer for graphic and/or tabular presentation to supervisor and lab group.

Job Summary

Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.

Essential Functions

Computer work; walking from place to place; standing and sitting to perform essential tasks. Good manual dexterity.

Physical Effort

Lifting and stacking of boxes of supplies, standing for extended periods required to fulfill workload.
