University of Pittsburgh Guest Costume Designer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The University of Pittsburgh Theatre Arts Department seeks a well-organized and reliable guest costume designer for our Fall 2024 production of The Inseparables by TJ Young.

The candidate will be responsible to be available and participate in the following show dates and deadlines:

Auditions August 29-September 5, 2024

Design meetings TBD, coordinated with the directing

Production meetings on Mondays at noon, Oct. 7th-Nov. 4, 2024

Fittings Arranged with Costume Shop

Costume prelims Sept. 2, 2024

Costume finals September 22, 2024

Dress rehearsals November 11, 12, 13, 14, 2024

Opening November 15, 2024

The guest costume designer will work with a faculty director, student designers, faculty, and staff to integrate, model, and build professional production processes with students through their undergraduate credited experience.

The guest costume designer should be able to relate and collaborate with students, faculty, and staff. The candidate will adhere to production timelines while remaining flexible to the evolving needs of academic theatre production. The costume designer should possess creativity, attention to detail, and effective and timely communication skills. The guest costume designer will work with the staff costume shop manager, assistant manager, and student-staffed shop to realize designs. Team development and leadership skills in working with diverse groups are essential. The responsibilities include but are not limited to attending all design and production meetings, providing final costume designs with color and supporting research, remaining within the costume budget, and attending scheduled fittings/designer runs and dress rehearsals up to the opening night.

Qualifications: An MFA in Costume Design or Costume Production is required; significant professional theatre costume experience will also be considered.
