UPMC Family Engagement Specialist in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The Family Engagement Specialist provides strengths-based support, resources, advocacy, and crisis intervention. In this role, you will assist families and children within the childcare area of the UPMC Neighborhood Center. The Family Engagement Specialist will collaborate with staff and community partners to provide services, assisting in planning and implementing family events and conducting community outreach to inform the community about services within the Center. You will also maintain appropriate records and data on events within the childcare area.

The UPMC Health Plan Neighborhood Center is a multilayer center that had been created to address the needs of our Medicaid, Medicare, and community members through the areas of social determinants of health. The Neighborhood Center is equipped with many community partnerships and UPMC services within it. These include but are not limited to retail/community workers, community health workers, food pantry, community resources, telehealth and so much more.


  • Provide support to children and families within the Neighborhood Center.

  • Collaborate with community organizations to provide opportunities to children and families.

  • Actively participate in staff meetings and twice monthly reflective supervision meetings

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of family events.

  • Manage routine cleaning and maintenance responsibilities in the Children’s area.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with supervisor, peers, and internal and external Partners.

  • Recognize and demonstrate shared responsibility for the presentation of the Neighborhood Center

  • Community outreach and engagement is an essential task in this role.

  • Must be community orientated, great customer service, be very adaptable and team worker.

  • Self-Motivated; demonstrated initiative and ability to follow through on task.

  • Bachelor’s degree required in education, social services, or a related field or two years combined experience with early childhood services.

  • Classroom/social work center-based programming, prevention initiative and early head start experience preferred.

  • 33/34 clearances, FBI

  • First Aid and CPR training preferred for infant/child or the willingness to obtain.

  • Previous service coordination experience

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, decision-making skills, time, stress, and organizational skills are required.

  • Ability to think creativity, plan and organize complex work projects.

  • Ability to work under pressure, be flexible, organized, and able to effectively prioritize work tasks.

  • Ability to work as part of a team in completing group task and special projects.

  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office suited including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
