DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Decorative Formulation Research Chemist

Pittsburgh, PA

Are you an experienced research chemist that is desiring to take the next step in your career, lead projects, and be an integral part of driving innovation as part of the PPG team? If so, this is the role for you!

As a Research Chemist on the Decorative Formulations Team, you will work on project teams in the development of new innovative coatings technologies for the Automotive, Refinish and Industrial markets. You will lead the technical development by driving new ideas, ensuring collaboration between team members and maintaining effective alignment between the local project and global product development teams.

You will work on-site at our Pittsburgh, PA facility and report to the Sr. Group Leader.

Responsibilities: * Lead individual projects or workstreams of larger projects in the areas of Automotive, Refinish and Industrial decorative coatings technologies in terms of both technical and project team member direction * Perform laboratory work to support project deliverables * Collaborate with site synthesis, analytical, applications and supporting teams to drive fundamental understanding of areas to be explored to develop prototype product formulations for adoption by development teams * Regular communication with global Automotive, Refinish and Industrial technical development teams / product managers on project collaboration, progress updates and technology transfer * Ensure that proper IP strategies are in place for projects and maintain awareness of the competitive IP landscape * Work in and promote a safe work environment

Qualifications: * PhD with 1+ years, MS 5+ years, BS 10+ years industrial experience in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or related technical field * Previous experience in waterborne or solventborne coatings formulation and testing procedures is desirable * Excellent communication skills to provide project updates to both technical and commercial audiences * Ability to use design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis tools (JMP) * Understand the IP process and strategy implementation
