Carnegie Mellon University Communications Specialist - Heinz College in PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 2021826 The Communications Specialist is an integral member of Heinz College's Marketing team within Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy. This position is responsible for growing the college's reputation, brand reach and engagement with diverse customers/audiences through articles, written content across a variety of platform including web, print, internal communications, email content, and other forms for written materials.

Core responsibilities include:

Content Writing & Storytelling: responsible for ideation, creative concept development, and weaving all components of a story from start to finish, ensuring inclusivity and cultural responsiveness.

Mediums/Channels: experienced interviewer, researcher, editor, and writer with the skills to translate rough, and often technical content, into polished, professional articles that can be delivered through a variety of mediums and channels, including multi-media, that are tailored for specific target audiences, with attention to multicultural perspectives.

Support of web projects: work independently on translating articles and content effectively into web copy; work directly with supervisor and team members on text updates, edits, and revisions to various websites. Create content that is user-friendly and allows the site visitors to get the information they want quickly and efficiently.

Edit documents or website content for completeness, accuracy, and correct language usage; detail focused, provides final review, and edit of content prior to publishing; Publish approved content in campaigns.

Author/Ghostwrite compelling and useful documents and content for various outlets.

Analyze communication metrics/data to determine effectiveness of operations and influence decision making. Communicate trends and research to supervisor/management by leading presentations and meetings; develop reports to summarize performance against KPIs.

Writing for events, program initiatives (emails, ads, flyers, posters and web copy), as needed.

Revise documents to meet predetermined standards of style and ensure relevancy to the readers as well as focus on search engine optimization (SEO).

Produce content that is effective in its use of keywords and/or SEO.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Writng, Communication, Marketing, or related fields. Masters degree preferred.

Work Experience: 1-3 years experience in Journalism, Professional Writing, Communicaiton with strong ana ytical skills and oral/written communication skills.
