Assistant Director of Represented Graduate Students
The Office of the Provost is seeking candidates for an Assistant Director of Represented Graduate Students to join the Graduate Studies team led by the Vice Provost for Graduate Studies. This role will provide professional and strategic oversight to the planning, design, and administration of the University of Pittsburgh's collective bargaining agreement and interactions with the union that represents the University's teaching assistants, teaching fellows, graduate student assistants, and graduate student researchers (approximately 2,000), in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Provost and the senior leadership of the University.
The Office of the Provost - Graduate Studies Team is a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and deadlines that often shift and require both flexibility and attention to detail. The work is highly collaborative both within the Office of the Provost and across the University and requires the ability to exercise creative problem-solving.
Qualified candidates are required to possess the following skills & qualifications:
Bachelor's is required. Master's preferred.
At least 2 years of experience in university administration.
Expertise managing deadlines and keeping tasks on track.
Professional demeanor and ability to communicate with individuals at all levels required.
High level of expertise in preparing concise reports.
Acute attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and to perform effectively with a fluctuating workload.
Generate creative problem-solving approaches.
Understanding of graduate appointments policy and procedures related preferred.
Confidentiality and discretion are critical.
Job Summary
Oversees all aspects of planning, design, and execution of multiple, small routine projects or a moderately complex project. Assists in developing timelines and ensures adherence to deadlines. Manages financial aspects of projects and other administrative duties. Handles external correspondence and drafts reports and other communications.
Essential Functions
• Act as a point of information and resource to the University community and to leadership including Deans and other University and academic unit administrators on matters relating to the CBA and union relations for TAs/TFs/GSAs/GSRs.
• Provide consultation and direction to academic units across the University throughout the status quo period, the CBA negotiation/renegotiation process, and implementation of the CBA.
• Identify ways to streamline and improve processes and procedures as well as improve existing initiatives.
• Manage projects and as needed task forces that are relevant to TA/TF/GSA/GSR labor relations including external benchmarking, initiatives, overseeing development of graduate unionization website, and collecting and analyzing data.
• Work closely with the Vice Provost and the Director of Academic Affairs, serve as a liaison to the Department of Employee and Labor Relations in Office of Human Resources and the Office of University Counsel.

Standing or sitting for long periods of time. May need to help set-up in-person or hybrid meetings in various locations on campus.
