Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Associate II for the department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.Under the direction of faculty member, candidate is responsible for the conduct of highly specialized and technical research within the laboratory of Dr. Ahmad Cluntun. The primary aim of this position is to use mouse models to explore metabolic pathways influencing heart function and disease progression.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Performs various research and clinical technical operations relative to ongoing investigatory activities of a laboratory. The main projects within the lab focus on studies relative to metabolic regulation in cardiac disease, with particular emphasis on lactate metabolism and its role in conditions like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
  • May conduct, independently or as assigned, specialized research for a particular project. Will also have the opportunity to participate in ongoing collaborative projects, as well as to spearhead new projects within the lab.
  • Participates in the development of performance standards, selection of methodology and instrumentation and coordination of the analytical, biochemical, physiology and instrumentation functions with the clinical and research areas to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the department.
  • Under supervision, assists in the conducting of continuous program of research and development regarding the analytical and instrumentation functions of the laboratory, participates in the evaluation of the existing procedures, suggesting revision where necessary and proposing new procedures where required.
  • As requested, assists in the implementation of the programs and projects in special areas of interest to the department.
  • Engage in scientific communication, mentor graduate/undergraduate students and training of junior personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory notebooks and research activity. Review literature, assist with grant writing, prepare manuscripts and abstracts for submission.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • The candidate requires a PH.D. or equivalent in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or similar within a related field or a Master's Degree in a relevant science plus three (3) years of related research experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong background in general biochemistry and molecular biology techniques.
  • The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, with expertise in lab operations, equipment maintenance and inventory management.
  • They should have leadership abilities to oversee daily lab activities, ensure safety compliance and provide support to the research team.
