Overview
Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC's 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. UBHC, one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country, has a budget of $260 million and has 15 sites throughout New Jersey. Services are readily accessible and include: inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach and case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children and child protective service workers. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and touched the lives of 19,441 individual callers through peer support. In addition, UBHC is the primary mental health training resource for the New Jersey departments of Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections, delivering 16,000 trainings each year.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Part-Time Staff Nurse for the Community Based Services - Intensive Recovery Treatment Support (IRTS) Department within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse is to provide nursing services and participates in the delivery of person centered, individualized, goal directed nursing care.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Conducts initial and ongoing Nursing Assessments based on clinical assessment to individuals served in the NJ State Prisons as well as in community settings.
  • Documents Nursing Assessments in accordance with all timelines and documentation requirements.
  • Educates and provides information to individuals about Medication Assisted Therapies (MAT); monitors MAT adherence.
  • Provides supports to individual to link up to initial appointment with community based addiction, physical and mental health care providers.
  • Collaborates with treatment team and the individual served in the development of an individualized treatment/recovery plan of Care on as clinically indicated, and in compliance with all regulatory time lines.
  • Utilizes evidence-based interventions and treatments specific to the diagnosis or problem.
  • Unusual clinical incidents are documented and submitted to promote safety through trend identification and appropriate intervention.
  • Ensures that appropriate consents as determined by regulations and policies are obtained to protect confidentiality and support the rights of the individual served in the process of data gathering.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
Certifications/Licenses
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
  • Valid driver's license.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Possesses the ability to handle multiple priorities and ability to problem solve.
  • Demonstrates strong clinical nursing specialty, excellent communication skills and PC literate with basic knowledge of word processing and email communication.
  • Must be able to work effectively with multidisciplinary team and have the ability to direct staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of substance abuse experience.
  • Experience with community based service provision to adults with addictions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires standing 2/3 of the time, walking 2/3 of the time, requires sitting 1/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle or feel 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms, 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Manual dexterity and intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment includes prison and community based services and community outreach. Subject to unpredictable situations and crises, to include behavioral, medical and psychiatric. Occasionally exposed to individuals exhibiting assaultive behaviors. Exposure to blood borne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment.
Special Conditions
  • Must possess own vehicle or alternate means of transportation for use to outreach individuals served.
  • Ability to travel throughout the state.
