Indian Health Service Nurse (SANE) in Pine Ridge, South Dakota

Summary Performs primary functions as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) in assessing, planning, implementing & evaluating the care of sexual assault victims; with additional ability to assess the need for referral for additional care including medical, mental health, pediatric, ambulatory & emergent conditions. The SANE works as a team member for the women's program. Assists in other clinics for PRH when needed. Assists in clinic nursing role when needed in the Pediatric Clinic. Responsibilities Functions as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of sexual assault victims. Consultation with provider, multidisciplinary team and specialists as necessary. Independently evaluates patients for primary care in other clinics for Pine Ridge Service Unit. Provides patient and family education which include counseling and assisting the patient/family to understand plan of care, treatment, and follow up. Develops a therapeutic environment which allows patient(s) and families to have confidence in the Nurse. Plans with other health care professionals and Multidisciplinary team involved with providing services to patient(s) and their families and coordinates the care which is provided. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Nurse Series 0610 (opm.gov) Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Minimum Qualifications for GS-09: 1 Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 Grade Level. Examples include: Assessing and treating acute minor illnesses such as UTIs, assessing, treating and counseling on STDs, counseling patients in family planning and birth control measures. Counseling infertility in patients including scheduling and performing routine tests and providing education and support. Experience in obstetrical and gynecological physical evaluations. Evaluating patients for sexual abuse and experience in performing sexual assault exams. OR possession of a master's degree in professional nursing. Minimum Qualifications for GS-11: 1 Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 Grade Level. Examples include: Independently carrying out the duties of providing and coordinating with staff education by assessing and providing educational needs on Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner/Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SANE/SAFE). Independently gathering and analyzing data for exam programs and provides quarterly reports and year-end evaluation to the supervisor. OR successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field. Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only) Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
