Facebook is seeking an Electrical Engineer experienced in the design and operations of critical facilities to become part of our data center engineering team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates with efficient ease. Building and operating data centers the "right" way from the day they go live is synonymous with ensuring capacity availability and capital conservatism. The data center design engineering team approaches facility design from the chips on the server boards to the facility mechanical and electrical distribution systems which ensure and maximize efficiency of our compute infrastructure.

Required Skills:

  1. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define project design criteria, develop Basis of Design, establish installation strategy, and lead internal technical scope reviews

  2. Technical leader managing the consultants to implement the project through schematic design, design development, to construction documents

  3. Technical leader managing the design build contractor to ensure the project meets the business and technical needs defined in the BOD

  4. Provide construction administrative support to the project manager during construction. Task include but not limited to, responding to RFI’s, issuance of technical bulletins, review submittals and shop-drawings, conducting source inspections at vendor factories and participating in the data center construction commissioning process

  5. Provide and analyze energy efficient solutions to minimize power losses

  6. Review and develop detailed scripts for change management request (CMR) activities

  7. Travel to data center sites for engineering studies, electrical systems audits, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required. Approximately 25% travel to both domestic and international project locations

  8. Provide electrical mission critical system review services to local data center operations teams

  9. Participate in equipment failure or power outage related incident Root-Cause-Analysis (RCA)

  10. Provide instructions to design consultants, installation contractors and validate the quality of installed works

  11. Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS in Electrical Engineering

  2. Minimum of five years professional experience in building design and construction

  3. Experience with high voltage (115kV, 12kV) substation design and mission critical power distribution systems (data center topologies, PLC based transfer controllers, generators, UPS, PDU, and Building Management System)

  4. Experience with industry standards, building codes and safety standards including NFPA, UFC and UBC

  5. Experience with the construction and cost estimating process

  6. Experience with retrofits in operational facilities

  7. Experience with cross-discipline critical facility systems

  8. Experience with AutoCAD or Revit, Visio, Bluebeam, and SKM software

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Electrical Professional Engineer registration

  2. Data center or mission critical design, construction and operations

  3. BTO or Colocation experience
