Facebook Data Center Facility Operations Area Director - West in Pierre, South Dakota

Summary:

Facebook is seeking a seasoned leader to lead Data Center Facility Operations for approximately half of Facebook’s portfolio of data centers (600+ MW). This Area Director supports data center campuses in North America, primarily in the west, central, and south regions of the United States. This role is strategic in nature. The Director in this role will create industry-leading vision and strategy, develop scalable solutions to support Facebook’s data center campus facility operations, and mentor/lead director-level talent. This position is full-time and can be located remotely within the continental United States.

Required Skills:

  1. Overall responsible for leading a team of directors overseeing the data center Facility Operations teams for the operating sites in the west, central, and southern regions of the United States. These teams operate, maintain, and modernize critical power, cooling, building controls, fire/life safety, and all supporting campus physical infrastructure.

  2. Build a high performing team by hiring, mentoring, and developing Directors, Managers, and their teams of operational and technical experts.

  3. Develop and lead the implementation of a strategy to effectively build-out/improve a robust set of processes, procedures, tools, and monitoring systems to enable campus teams to safely and effectively operate and maintain the physical infrastructure at Facebook’s data center campuses.

  4. Evolve the facility operations staffing model to support the requirements of a global world-class organization.

  5. Define and hold leaders accountable to Key Performance Indices (KPI) for mission critical facility operations.

  6. Provide leadership to understand, collaborate, and influence across the organizations that connect with the infrastructure team. Serve as a principal liaison to leaders on other Facebook teams that site, design, and build data center campuses, as well as leaders on other Facebook teams that rely on the physical infrastructure at the data center campuses.

  7. Partner with a peer Area Director to provide strategic prioritization for the operations teams across the organization.

  8. Ability to travel approximately 35%

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 10+ years’ experience leading a data center or technical operations team with high availability

  2. Experience in personnel management, staffing, and scheduling for a 24/7 environment

  3. Experience managing teams of 100+ full-time employees

  4. Communication skills at all levels

  5. Track record of developing and implementing strategy

  6. Experience in building scalable solutions for growing organizations

  7. Proven track record in senior leadership development

  8. Experience in data center power and cooling infrastructure or other complex critical systems, and experience with current data center challenges

  9. Demonstrated problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. BS in Engineering preferred, advanced degree in engineering or business desired
