The U.S. Consumer Services and Enterprise Digital & Data Technology Team brings together foundational strategic technology capabilities in digital experience engineering (Mobile and Web), AI/ML, marketing technology, enterprise communications, travel and lifestyle, and automation, grounded in our data technology model that prioritizes data governance. It employs a ground-breaking focus with development responsibilities for customer-facing capabilities that deepen and expand digital engagement, as well as core technical capabilities that cut across business lines and customer segments.

How will you make an impact in this role?

At Travel and Lifestyle Services (TLS) we bring membership to life every day. TLS is a unique line of business within American Express that offers card members access premium benefits for card members. Delivering that value is complex but vital for our cardmembers, and technology is at its center. As part of our rapidly growing Technology team, we have an open opportunity for a Senior Engineering Manager. As a Senior Engineering Manger within TLS, you will support team(s) of engineers and work closely with your peers and business partners to develop and build products and technologies that will enable omni-channel experiences. You will be responsible for the team to deliver extraordinary service that our customers expect from American Express. We are therefore looking for a strong leader to be part of this high performing team, to help us build and support our next generation platforms.

Responsibilities:

Engineering:

  • Empower teams to produce clean, tested and monitored scalable codeShape all technical aspects of software development, including design principles, delivery pipelines and governance

  • Influence team members with creative changes and improvements by challenging status quo and demonstrating risk taking

  • Drives the team’s technical improvements and roadmap taking accountability for the technical maturity of the team

  • Work with Product team to prioritize features for ongoing sprints, and support refinement.Communicate and drive the team’s strategy and prioritizes initiatives

Leadership:

  • People Leader to B30 colleagues and possibly contractors as wellPromote, empower, and practice servant-leadership

  • Mentor and guide team members to success; identify strengths and areas for growth in direct reports and guides them to grow in their careers while being more productive on the team

  • Nurture an environment of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics

  • Working with Engineering Director to hire top talent for the team i.e. actively builds the team through hiring, coaching and career development discussions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Broad software development experience across a full technical stack, developing distributed applications/platforms.

  • Deep experience in front end development including understanding of designs, accessibility, analytics, and SEO.

  • Hands-on expertise driving application design, software development and automated testing.

  • Proven knowledge of React, Java, microservice architecture and events-based architecture like Kafka.

  • Proven experience leading Engineers as part of software development

  • Experience working in agile teams, preferably some exposure to SAFe

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop others both technically and personally Ability to set priorities and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to learn and adapt in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Adaptable to changes in product requirements, organizational structures and business conditions

  • Ability to clearly communicate and collaborate well with technical and nontechnical partners

  • Experience mentoring and developing colleagues in a high-performance culture

  • University Degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related field or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current knowledge of travel industry is preferred

Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually bonus benefits
