Rite of Passage SCIENCE TEACHER in Phoenix, Arizona

Description

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and implement engaging science curricula that meets both state standards and the unique needs of the youth in our program.

  • Create interactive and experiential learning opportunities that connect scientific concepts to real-world applications, sparking curiosity and a love for learning.

  • Provide a supportive, structured, and nurturing classroom environment that helps students navigate personal challenges while achieving academic success.

  • Use diverse teaching strategies, including project-based learning, outdoor experiments, and inquiry-based instruction, to reach students with different learning styles and abilities.

  • Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and other staff to address the emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of each student.

  • Foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and teamwork through science-based activities and discussions.

  • Monitor and assess student progress, offering encouragement and targeted interventions to help them reach their full potential.

  • Act as a mentor and role model, demonstrating resilience, empathy, and positive behavior.

  • Encourage students to see science not just as a subject, but as a tool for understanding and engaging with the world around them. Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in teaching and working with at-risk youth.

To be considered, you should:

  • Possesses a current and valid State teaching credential in English, Math, Science and/or Special Education.

  • Have related experience working with at-risk youth

  • Have three or more years of successful classroom teaching

  • Possess a knowledge of:

  • Instructional strategies and how they can be employed to deliver curriculum and assess student learning.

  • Various methodologies and research related to learning and working with at-risk, high school aged youth.

  • Effective classroom management techniques and behavioral management styles that result in understanding of how to manage and teach to various learning styles.

  • Effective communication techniques that enable positive and productive collaboration with site staff.

  • Technology and how it can be used as an educational tool.

  • Have the ability to:

  • Establish a teaching rapport with students which results in student achievement in all program areas.

  • Diagnose, prescribe and evaluate student progress on an ongoing basis.

  • Collaborate with staff to deliver a consistent curriculum and implement a team approach to working with students.

  • Confront inappropriate behavior appropriately and take the necessary action as outlined in the program procedures.

  • Accept additional tasks as assigned including flexible work schedule and extracurricular assignments.

  • Be able to pass a criminal background clearance check, drug screen, physical and TB test.
