Position description

A postdoctoral fellowship position is available immediately in the Department of Neurosurgery at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix campus under the supervision of Dr. Jonathon J. Parker M.D., Ph.D. (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathonjparker/) in the multidisciplinary Device-Based Neuroelectronics Lab (DBNL). This individual will focus on the development of novel methods of intracranial brain stimulation for the treatment of medication-refractory epilepsy. The lab works at the interface of human translational neurophysiology, brain imaging, and stimulation therapy design. We have close collaborations across Mayo Clinic with the labs of Dr. Greg Worrell, Dr. Kai Miller, and Dr. Dora Hermes. Additionally, the DBNL lab collaborates with Arizona's local top universities.

Our translational neuroscience research program at Mayo Clinic Arizona is focused on the development of mapping techniques to discover optimal neural stimulation targets for epilepsy. We are a national referral center for complex epilepsy surgery patients, with a state-of-the-art Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).

The lab utilizes human intracranial recordings to study the spectrum of systemic, neurologic, and psychiatric conditions. We use a combination of techniques spanning human electrophysiologic recordings, wearable sensors, animal models, therapeutic stimulation, and advanced brain imaging protocols.

This position requires a strong background in electrical engineering, neural engineering, applied mathematics, and/or computational neuroscience. All levels of post-doctoral experience will be considered.

Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and a publication record that demonstrates proficiency in the above techniques. In addition to writing software, carrying out stimulation experiments, and analyzing data - the fellow will be expected to submit and present their work at national and international conferences. The fellow will be expected to independently design experiments, collect data, craft manuscripts, and assist in grant writing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are essential. Some travel to present work and visit collaborators will be required and supported.

A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Mentorship opportunities are available and encouraged with students rotating in the lab. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants.

The following is required for application:
