  • We’re seeking a dedicated professional to support our Alaska-based ISP’s core network configuration.

  • This is a contract-to-hire position, offering the opportunity to work 100% remotely.

  • Ideal Candidate Profile We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience configuring and supporting Nokia / ALU equipment in an ISP environment.

Role Overview As an IP Core Network Engineer, you’ll provide expertise and support for our local area IP Core Network, including complex client-server environments. Your responsibilities will include operational monitoring, support, analysis, and systems administration. You’ll install, configure, and support our organization’s core network, maintaining systems, applications, security, and network configurations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project work relating to platform growth and support.

  • Change management and management plans.

  • Configuration and troubleshooting of Nokia, Cisco, Brocade, and Juniper IP/MPLS routers and switches.

  • Working independently and/or in teams, providing primary support responsibility for multiple network platforms.

  • Management of network resources.

  • Reviewing facilities utilization and performance.

  • Creating and auditing network and systems documentation.

  • Inventory tracking and maintenance, ensuring network elements meet expected life cycles.

  • Performing daily operational checks and preventative maintenance on all associated equipment.

  • Compiling and generating statistical/traffic & network performance reports, including bandwidth usage. Identifying bottlenecks on associated IP links.

  • Performing system software and hardware upgrades in collaboration with Engineering.

  • Working closely with Engineers and other company business groups to resolve problems affecting customers. Ensuring compliance with network SLAs.

  • Tracking repair parts and materials according to established procedures.

  • Installing, configuring, and supporting the company’s LAN, WAN, and internet systems, or a segment of a network system.

  • Monitoring network to ensure network availability to all system users and performing necessary maintenance to support network availability.

  • Direct customer communication and Tier I and Tier II escalation support.

  • Monitoring and testing site performance to ensure sites operate correctly and without interruption.

  • Supporting network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software.

  • Administering and performing network security measures.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Ability to handle moderate levels of stress while demonstrating excellent interpersonal and professional interaction skills with customers and other employees.

  • Experience managing large network platforms.

  • Demonstrated working experience in the use of Visio.

  • Understanding of standard wide area concepts such as routing, multicasting, broadcasting, duplex and half-duplex, reliability and testing, high availability, security, and standards.

  • Experience with SNMP based network management systems, configuration, and operation strongly recommended.

  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills, able to effectively document procedures and technical processes.

  • Experience with Remedy, Metasolv, Statseeker, Cacti, Cisco Prime, and X-windows configuration and operation is strongly recommended.

  • Commitment to ongoing skill development to help achieve best MTTR (Mean time to repair) and assist in network optimization.

Certifications

Industry-specific certifications are highly valued and contribute toward education.

Preferred certifications include Nokia NRS-I, or equivalent, and Nokia NRS-II, or equivalent.
