Ameresco Project Development Engineer in Phoenix, Arizona

We currently seek a Project Development Engineer to support the development, design, and installation of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) generating systems including energy storage options for institutional and utility-scale projects as well as other renewable energy initiatives for our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Assess feasibility of Solar PV, Energy Storage and Fuel Cell projects in terms of conceptual design, vendor selection, energy modeling, demand/energy savings, project scoping, project pricing, and performance risk management;

  • Provide technical guidance throughout development, construction, project commissioning, and operations, including proposals, technical reports, cost estimates, and presentations;

  • Manage vendor relationships and maintain pricing updates with the battery storage equipment suppliers and participate in the vetting of the equipment and technologies to ensure best match with project solutions.

  • Coordinate and deploy Pre-Construction (PC) individuals to administer site walks, field data collection, contractor bids, and pre-development support associated with designated led projects;

  • Provide RFI support through construction, ensuring projects are built in compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes;

  • Coordinate equipment procurement to include: pricing, terms & conditions, delivery & storage and purchase orders with the Construction Project Management associated with designated projects;

  • Interface with other departments, management, and non-technical staff to collaborate technical diligence with a business solution in mind;

  • Ensure successful project implementation that meets or exceeds company objectives, financial parameters, and technical needs required to deliver customer energy cost savings;

  • Cultivate and maintain positive business relationships;

  • Travel to Renewable Energy Project sites (up to 10% travel) and

  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical or related technical Engineering and

  • Minimum Five (5) years of experience acting in Solar PV and/or Energy Storage commercial development or related construction development process including: project development, engineering, construction of energy generation projects, power purchase agreements, performance contracting, and financial analysis of energy generation projects.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Certifications and/or advanced degree viewed as favorable for position requirements (PE, MBA, CEM, NABCEP, EIT, PMP).

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience deploying Energy Storage Systems, specifically Li-ion behind the meter solutions.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and interaction with Solar PV assets.

  • Demonstrated skills in priority organization, technical writing, detail-oriented approach, with ability to produce big picture results in a fast-paced business environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact and work with multi-functional teams including: sales, customers, equipment vendors, multi discipline engineers, and utilities.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including written and verbal.

  • Ability to travel to Renewable Energy Project Sites to support management teams. Up to 10% travel.

  • Advanced Proficiency in Solar PV and Energy Storage software modeling applications (in order of importance). Energy Toolbase, GELI, Pason, Microsoft Excel, PV Syst, SAM, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Google Sketchup.

  • Understanding of NEC, IBC, IFC applicable codes pertaining to commercial Solar PV.

  • Demonstrated ability to correctly solve complex problems and issues without regular supervision.

  • Demonstrated experience managing internal and/or external resources.

  • Demonstrated experience working in complex jurisdictional or utility environments. Experience working through commercial Solar PV and/or Energy Storage utility interconnection.

  • Demonstrated experience in electrical and racking/structural systems for Solar PV commercial systems.

  • Experience working in EPC (engineer, procure, construct), or PPA (power purchase agreement) environment a plus.
