Western Area Power Administration Program Manager (Communication Maintenance) in Phoenix, Arizona

Summary This position is part of the WAPA-DSW-Desert Southwest. As a Program Manager (Communication Maintenance), you will coordinate and execute the WAPA-DSW communications preventive maintenance and safety programs. This is not a remote position. The selectee will be required to be physically present at the Phoenix, AZ duty location. Responsibilities As a Program Manager (Communication Maintenance), you will: Plan, recommend, and oversee major modifications and additions to the Region's communication systems. Organize staff, budget, direct, plan and control the projects assigned. Plan, organize, direct and coordinate complex computer engineering programs. Provide technical advice and guidance in the resolution of critical, unique, and particularly difficult engineering problems arising in ongoing automated systems. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. This employer participates in the e-Verify program. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Field work may include exposure to inclement weather, high noise levels, hand, eye, foot, and electrical shock hazards; walking, climbing, stooping, and bending. Wears personal protective equipment and follows standard safety procedures. May be called upon for support at any time including, nights, weekends, and holidays. Qualifications SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience in two out of four of the following: Communications systems that support transmission system facilities for complex computer systems (SCADA or EMS); Data and voice communication infrastructures and that include systems protection; Designing communication systems; and/or Three of the following technologies: Fiber optics Radio systems (VHF, UHF, spread spectrum, microwave) and Data network technologies such as MPLS or SONET, TDM, IP or VOIP "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education There is no education requirement for this position. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
