The Principal Content Management Consultant - Informatics plays a lead role in the development of Clinical Decision Support (CDS) solutions. This individual will be well versed in knowledge engineering, rule authoring, data models, HL7 standards (such as FHIR, CDS Hooks, and CQL), HIPAA, standard terminologies (e.g. RxNorm, SNOMED, ICD-10-CM, etc.), and clinician workflow. In addition, this individual will possess proven clinical and analytical skills as well as the ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams and global customers.

  • Authors and maintains clinical decision support rules for use in advanced clinical decision support software.

  • Authors and maintains value sets of standard terminology codes for use within CDS software.

  • Regularly collaborates with colleagues in Informatics and other departments to drive innovation around CDS. Actively engages in generating ideas, soliciting customer input, developing prototypes, and working with early adopter customers.

  • Maintains a high degree of job knowledge and subject matter expertise via review of the medical and healthcare information technology literature and other activities as assigned. Actively develops and/or maintains clinical expertise with the express purpose of translating this expertise into improving clinical content. Continually develops and refines knowledge of database, clinical decision support applications, and rules-based logic. Leverages expertise to drive innovation as per above and to advance thought leadership to position CE as a world class brand in advanced clinical decision support.

  • Monitors CDS, interoperability, and technology trends and communicates key insights to the business to support CE strategy

  • Works with product and business intelligence teams to design studies and analyze customer data.

  • Collaborates with clinical quality analysts to make sure that CDS content has been properly tested.

  • Identifies, documents, and reports unexpected results generated by clinical decision support software.

  • In conjunction with other team members, assesses the criticality and priority of identified issues.

  • Provides a high level of customer service by offering customer and client support on an as needed basis. Participates in conference calls with external customers to clarify clinical content issues or expected data outcomes for new and existing implementations.

  • Provides customer implementation services for early stage products.

  • Supports CE engineering teams with informatics aspects of development and platform projects.

  • Supports exploratory projects with various customers, business partners and software vendors.

  • Achieves productivity by consistently meeting deadlines as defined by project plans and regular data updates as well as by meeting departmental and individual goals.

  • Supports ongoing departmental operations.



  • Doctor of Medicine (MD or equivalent) required

  • Formal Informatics training (e.g. MS/PhD degree) and/or Clinical Informatics Board Certification is preferred


  • Thorough knowledge of and direct experience working with medication and biomedical vocabularies such as ICD-10-CM, RxNorm, LOINC and SNOMED (required)

  • Thorough knowledge of Health IT standards, such as FHIR® and CDS Hooks (required)

  • Thorough understanding of HIPAA (required)

  • Relevant experience with HL7 Clinical Quality Language (CQL) (preferred)

  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams

  • Relevant experience authoring clinical decision support content

  • At least 5 years’ recent experience in Health IT

  • Deep understanding of EHR-based clinical workflows (required)

  • At least 3 years’ experience working in informatics at a health system (preferred)


  • Medical license from any U.S. State in good standing (preferred)

  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communications skills (required)

  • Ability to write computer code in any programming language (required)

  • Thorough knowledge of databases, data models and query languages (required)

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Team player and innovative attitude

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to “self motivate” and multi-task in a fast-paced, high growth environment
