How will you make an impact in this role?

Global Infrastructure – Mainframe & Data Center Infrastructure

The Mainframe & Data Center Infrastructure organization engineers, operates, and supports highly available and scalable infrastructures, which includes mainframe and middleware systems, database operations, data centers and security services.

The Infrastructure Engineer will own the engineering and design of critical American Express mainframe applications and infrastructure in conjunction with solving, tuning and debugging of applications and databases using the mainframe platform and will report directly to the Engineering Director for Mainframe Operations and Engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Engineering large/complex projects with a variety of components and integration points with a specialty in z/OS Operating system

  • Interact with business and vendor partners to better understand their objectives, Mainframe landscape and/or how to identify and solve sophisticated problems/issues

  • Interact with Infrastructure and Application Engineers and Architects to exploit modern technologies: Java, Encryption, Sysplex, Hybrid Cloud, High Availability, Active/Active and mainframe networking

  • Work with Engineers to define solution requirements, perform coding and/or hands-on implementation

  • Conduct infrastructure performance and security assessments

  • Provide internal analysis and support to ensure proper partner concern during outages or periods of degraded system performance

  • Participate in brainstorming and discovery exercises to resolve new technologies based on research, proof of concept efforts and independent investigation

  • Ensure engineering is consistent with engineering standards, guidelines, and principles.

  • Actively participate in team architecture and engineering discussions and forums as a prominent contributor

  • Employs expertise to help team members overcome issues during production outages and solution delivery

  • Ensures compliance with architectural, regulatory, and strategic standards, policies, and procedures

  • Actively modernizes platforms and applications using current agile practices (dev/ops)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3 years engineering experience in a sophisticated mainframe environment

  • Experience with design and implementation of mainframe and distributed applications

  • Experience with mainframe infrastructure, z-platform and z/OS technologies hardware and operating systems, control of mainframe architecture, middleware and tooling.

  • Experience with z/OS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with in depth problem solving, analytical analysis, reporting and presentation to senior leaders and key partners.

  • Advance knowledge and experience with modern mainframe technologies such as Java, Encryption, Sysplex, Hybrid Cloud, High Availability, Active/Active and Mainframe Networking

  • Strong industry knowledge of the latest technologies and its relevance to the American Express environment

  • Ability to lead, influence and drive vendor direction to deliver innovated solutions that are conducive to American Express

  • Outstanding personal integrity and ability to build trust and collaborate across an organization

  • An outstanding ability to empower and encourage team members to deliver on commitments

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt a message to the appropriate audience

  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, or related field

Qualifications

Salary Range: $85,000.00 to $150,000.00 annually bonus benefits
