About the Position
The Criminal Intelligence Supervisor in the Criminal Research and Analysis Unit (CRAU) oversees and supervises the Criminal Intelligence Analysts assigned to the Unit, which is part of the Intelligence Information Division (IID). This Unit supports the mission of the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office by providing timely, accurate, and actionable information and analysis.

Essential Job Tasks
- Supervises research, analysis, evaluation, and correlation of criminal information, intelligence, and associated data within the Unit.
- Supervises the analytical assignments to case investigations or requests for assistance; prioritizes the collection of data, monitors progress and work products, makes recommendations and assesses workload to ensure accountability, quality control and timely coordination of projects and cases.
- Creates, prepares, reviews, and approves various intelligence and administrative products and documents to be disseminated and ensures the information is accurate and in compliance with established standards.
- Uses computer databases, electronic spreadsheets, desktop publishing, GIS/mapping software, word processing, statistical applications, and specialized software applications to analyze and present all related intelligence information.
- Develops, implements, and revises automated processes to improve accuracy and efficiency of the Unit.
- Acts as a liaison with other law enforcement agencies and government entities regarding law enforcement and public safety issues; facilitates the exchange of information and intelligence between agencies; participates in the federal, state, and local law enforcement taskforces and partnerships.
- Comprehends and conveys articulate analysis of complex and detailed statistical reports, charts (link analysis, event flow analysis, activity charting), graphs, and maps to managers and Office administration for decision-making purposes; presents analysis and statistics in various internal and external forums.
- Interacts with Office personnel, other County employees, representatives from other law enforcement agencies, and the intelligence community; provides crime analysis, researches issues, and assists with criminal investigations; provides crime analysis training to law enforcement personnel.
- Directs the research, design, development, testing, and maintenance of operational and investigative databases, analytical software, hardware and peripheral equipment to enhance the quality of work products, and improve productivity of the Criminal Research and Analysis Unit.
- Provides research and recommendations concerning acquisition, maintenance, and release of tactical and intelligence information; maintains a comprehensive knowledge of internal criminal justice information systems, databases, and repositories.
- Supervises and evaluates the work and performance of staff assigned to the Criminal Research and Analysis Unit; participates in the selection process; provides or coordinates staff training; evaluates and monitors the workflow to ensure timely and accurate results; determines work prio ities and schedules
- Manages employee performance, develops and monitors performance plans, and conducts employee evaluations.
- Measures and analyzes program results and recommends actions to meet or increase results and output.
- Responds to criminal and special investigations detectives and crime scene incident commanders as needed, which includes 24/7 (on call) coverage.
- Ensures the division operations remain within established time frames, funding, and objectives.
- Researches and identifies funding sources.
- Ensures the quality of customer service and work products.
- Testifies in court proceedings when required.
- Performs related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of
- The principles and functions of crime and intelligence analysis, statistical analysis techniques, criminal Investigations, and research methods.
- Intermediate to advanced level - Microsoft Office Suite for report writing, statistical calculations, presentations, data transformation and management, and communications.
- Records Management Systems (RMS) and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software.
