About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Control Director responsible for partnering with the business to identify, assess, manage and mitigate current and emerging risk exposures resulting from business operations. The Control Director leads a team responsible for supporting the design and implementation of risk mitigation strategies and controls consistent with the Wells Fargo Risk Framework. Responsibilities include assessing and aggregating risks, evaluating, reporting on results and escalating where necessary. Crucial to this role is a collaborative leader capable of initiating action, driving outcomes, and managing change in a fast-paced environment leveraging strong relationship management, influencing, strategy and execution skills.

A key differentiator will be the ability to understand and operate successfully in a complex, heavily matrixed corporate environment. The role requires a sense of urgency, passion for results, and personal accountability for achievement while having the ability to make timely and difficult decisions. The successful candidate will have ability to distill complex concepts, businesses, and processes across multiple teams into simplified and targeted solutions while communicating those concepts effectively and ensuring that all deliverables are met. They will use process and analytic skills to identify business risks and build effective and strategic control recommendations.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage and develop a team with focus on delivering control support for high complexity processes, including automated process and application controls, for cross functional stakeholders and internal partners associated with the function or affected by its outcomes

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and risk control development by leading strategy and execution of all activities

  • Lead Business Controls team by making strategic decisions to resolve highly complex issues by ensuring all process weaknesses or gaps are identified and remediation plans are supported and acted upon

  • Supports control development initiatives to help define business processes and overall process enhancements. Identifies risk exposure based on emerging risks and changes in business processes

  • Manages oversight of issues and corrective actions to ensure control deficiencies are effectively resolved

  • Assists with aggregating risk information and communicating the risk profile for the business based on business process and RAUs.

  • Understands applicable regulations and partners with the business to develop controls to ensure compliance

  • Interpret and develop range of policies and procedures for business functions with moderate to high complexity and risk

  • Collaborate with and influence corporate heads, business heads, legal, audit, regulators, industry partners, elected officials, and trade groups including more experienced leadership

  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources to ensure commitments are met and aligned with strategic objectives in Business Controls functional area

  • Develop and guide a culture of Business Controls talent development to meet business objectives and strategies

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of Risk Management or Business Controls experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 4+ years of Management experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in Risk and Control Assessments, Business Process Management, Issue Management, Risk Reporting, & Analytics, and developing and implementing enterprise programs

  • Experience in designing effective controls, including testing design and performance

  • Meaningful knowledge across enterprise risk management framework

  • Understanding of best-practice risk management techniques across financial services industry, including development of key risk indicators

  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills with an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders and regulators, to include virtual, matrixed leadership experience and the ability to effectively manage and build relationships within the business and enterprise risk management functions

  • Proven leadership and project management skills to drive alignment across stakeholder groups to develop and deliver repeatable end-to-end risk management solutions and controls aligned with business/customer processes

  • Deep understanding of risk framework, corporate/business policies, and programs to translate into plans for the business, function and/or risk type

  • Strong analytical ability used to identify risks and confidently raise issues, escalate early and engage in constructive credible challenge and will do so independently when necessary

  • Proven ability to proactively manage and resolve conflict and effectively defend decisions with objective rationale

Job Expectations:

  • Ability to work on-site at one of the posted locations 3 days a week

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.

$173,300.00 - $359,900.00
