Job Title: AccountantJob Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to handle larger volumes of journal entries, maintain the general ledger, and manage credits and debits. The Accountant will prepare income statements and balance sheet support for assigned company product lines, identify and communicate significant financial events and trends, and assist in the preparation of statutory financial statements and filings.
Responsibilities
Handle and maintain the general ledger.
Record fixed assets acquisitions and dispositions in the general ledger.
Record and allocate operating expenses in the general ledger.
Prepare income statements and balance sheet support for assigned product lines.
Identify and communicate significant financial events and trends.
Run credits and debits.
Perform monthly bank reconciliations of corporate operating bank and other balance sheet accounts.
Research discrepancies, determine source of reconciling items, and make recommendations to improve controls and systems processes.
Assist in the preparation of audit schedules for internal/independent auditors.
Provide support to all other functional areas of the company as needed.
Assist in premium tax filings.
Learn and be familiar with GAAP and statutory accounting principles for life insurance.
Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements along with state-specific filings.
Review, verify, and post interfaced monthly insurance activity from the accounting sub-ledgers to the general ledger.
Continually strive to provide the highest level of customer services, both internally and externally.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in accounting and general ledger maintenance.
Expertise in journal entries, credits, and debits.
Ability to manage and perform 300 journal entries a month.
Knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
Experience with SAP or another major ERP system.
Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and Vlookups.
Experience in reconciliation, month-end processes, and accounts payable.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
2+ years of experience as an accountant handling GL, journal entries, or credits and debits.
Experience within investment accounting is preferred.
Experience in accounting within the life insurance sector, reconciliation accounting, and/or reporting.
Work Environment
For the first 6 months, the position will be in-office, followed by a hybrid model with work-from-home options on most Wednesdays. The team comprises 6 accounting members within a total Finance & Accounting team of 25. The company promotes a growth-focused mindset and encourages a friendly and flexible work environment. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $70000.00
