AECOM Water Wastewater Project Engineer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Job Summary

AECOM has an immediate need for a Project Engineer in the Newark, DE, Philadelphia, PA and Conshohocken, PA offices to support our strong and growing water/wastewater engineering practice.

With an emphasis on water/wastewater conveyance and pumping system design, the Project Engineer will work on projects from the planning through permitting and construction phases, with opportunities for field work and client interaction. The Project Engineer will have the opportunity to mentor junior staff, while working on a combination of local and regional projects with a variety of scopes and applications.

Other responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Lead complex municipal water/wastewater conveyance and pumping system design, assessment and rehabilitation projects

  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with limited supervision

  • Coordination with regulatory agencies

  • Work independently; strong interpersonal, negotiating, problem-solving, analytical skills

  • Attend occasional team meetings in the Newark, DE office

  • Perform site investigations at client project sites

  • Developing junior staff and leading multidiscipline project design teams

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well in teams

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related discipline

  • Four (4) years of progressive experience in municipal water/wastewater conveyance and pumping engineering and design

  • Sound foundation in the planning, permitting, and design of water and wastewater conveyance projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer in Delaware and Pennsylvania or ability to obtain reciprocity within six (6) months of hire

  • Master's Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering a plus

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3-D software

  • Thorough understanding of the requirements of the United States Miss-Utility System (811 System) and experience with submitting Tickets

  • Understanding of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) practices and investigation procedures

  • Experience with preparing a Safe Work Plan (SWP) and making live modifications during the course of the work as site conditions change

  • Working knowledge of the following Standards:

o American Water Work Association (AWWA)

o Recommended Standards for Water and Wastewater Facilities (Ten States Standards)

o Local State County standards applicable to specific projects

o Client Specific Standards for construction details

  • Confined Space training

  • Field Safety Training experience

  • Project Management Experience or Training a plus

  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with clients, regulatory agency representatives and members of the public when required to represent the company

  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with technicians, designers, engineers and project managers for the preparation of high quality work products

  • Strong communication skills in coordinating with clients, sub-consultants, regulatory agencies, and members of the public may be necessary to accomplish assigned objectives

  • Proven excellent leadership skills, and demonstrated ability to successfully work in diverse teams
