General Job Description: This is administrative and engineering work directing one of the following operations for the Water Department:

  1. The treatment of water for consumption and fire protection, the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plants, the treatment of wastewater, and the operation and maintenance of the water pollution control plants;

  2. The delivery of water for consumption and fire protection, the operation and maintenance of the conveyance system, the collection of wastewater and stormwater, and the operation and maintenance of the wastewater and stormwater collection systems;

  3. Planning and research, development services, green stormwater infrastructure, watersheds management and laboratory services;

  4. Design engineering, construction management, capital program administration and/or asset information/developer services.

Contact with other responsibility centers, divisions, other City departments, external governmental agencies, contractors, and consultants is an important aspect of the work. Employees in this class report to a higher-level engineering manager.

 

The Requirements are as follows: 

EDUCATION 

Completion of a bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university, with major course work in engineering.

AND

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

Six years of engineering experience.

AND

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE

Operations Specialty:

Two years of experience performing administrative engineering work directing a major water or wastewater treatment facility or directing the activities of a water conveyance system or wastewater collection system.

OR  

Two years of water utility engineering experience at the managerial level with responsibility for directing multiple major water utility operational units and oversight of operational and maintenance systems.

Note: A Master's Degree in engineering issued by an accredited college or university or possession of a Professional Engineer's license may equate for two years of the General Experience requirement.
