Job Summary: The Temple Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science programs are federally funded college access programs designed to provide first-generation, low-income, and/or students at academic risk the supports needed to pursue and be successful through a college degree. The programs operate year-round with after-school tutoring and college access programming, academic instruction and enrichment on Saturdays during the academic year, and a six-week summer program that culminates with a multi-day trip touring college campuses. Science course(s) may be taught two Saturdays a month during the academic year, and four days a week during the six-week summer program. The Science instructor must establish course goals in science course/discipline and create lesson plans to help students develop science skills and understand science concepts in the disciplines of chemistry, biology, environmental science, and physics in order to successfully complete high school courses and prepare for college-level coursework. Instructors must be committed to helping students realize their potential and possess a desire to make the classroom a creative and engaging learning environment, a willingness to collaborate with other professionals, and an interest in working with a culturally diverse group of students. THIS IS A GRANT FUNDED POSITION UNTIL SEPTEMBER 30, 2027. Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in relevant major or teaching area or professional certification equivalent Minimum of two (2) year of teaching experience (or equivalent part-time experience) Experience working with a diverse range of high school students, including those from low-income, first generation college backgrounds An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Skills & Abilities: Experience in developing course curricula (creating lesson plans and activities) Excellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize diverse tasks in a fast-paced environment Ability to work in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel and MS Teams Ability to work in-person on Temple's Main Campus on Saturdays 9 am-3 pm (timeframe subject to change) two Saturdays per month, and in the summer Monday-Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm for 6 weeks in July and August.
