STV Incorporated Principal Traction Power Systems Engineer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Reference #: JR2542 STV is seeking a Principal Traction Power Systems Engineer to join our Systems/Security group at our Philadelphia, PA office. The main function of this job position is to prepare traction power engineering design drawings, specifications, reports, and studies for electrified railway projects. The majority of work is performed within an office atmosphere. The Principal Traction Power Systems Engineering position will report to the Chief Engineer or designee by the Chief Engineer in the Traction Power Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Work as a Principal Traction Power Systems Engineer within the Traction Power Engineering Department.

Preparation of power systems ac and dc single-line diagrams, metering and relaying schematics, ac and dc control schematics, wiring drawings, substation equipment layout drawings, conduit routing drawings, cable schedules, equipment mounting and installation drawings, grounding grid design, lightning protection design, lighting design, and related power distribution design drawings.

Prepare engineering design criteria and reports.

Prepare ac power system and dc traction power system load flow, short-circuit, protective relay coordination, arc-flash, step-and-touch potential, cable pulling tension, bus bar support, and cable ampacity studies and calculations.

Prepare engineering technical specifications.

Prepare installation and testing instructions.

Prepare budgetary construction cost estimates for power system projects.

Perform onsite inspections, physical measurements, and field reports in live high-voltage substations and along active railroads.

Attend factory tests, site commissioning tests, and preparing field reports.

Assist with preparing technical and cost proposals for new work.

Assist with preparing change orders for existing work.

Interface with railway clients, utility company representatives, and other departments within STV.

Required Skills

Bachelors of science degree in electrical engineering (an emphasis in power systems preferred).

Valid professional engineering (PE) license and active registration in the US.

Advanced experience in the design of ac and/or dc substations and power distribution systems in the electric utility or transit/railroad industry.

Strong communication skills and ability to work with others, including multidisciplinary staff in different offices.

Proficient in typing and writing clear, concise, and logical design engineering documents in the English language.

Proficient at using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint software programs.

An intermediate level of proficiency using AutoCAD or MicroStation computer aided design (CAD) software.

Experience using commercial ac power system analysis software for effectively performing load flow simulation, short-circuit calculations, relay settings and coordination, and ground grid design.

Experience using circuit analysis software packages such as SKM, ETAP, EMTP, PSS/E, EasyPower, and general purpose analysis software such a MathCAD.

Must follow safety rules related to on-track safety in accordance with 49 CFR 214.301 and other OSHA regulations.

Desired Skills

Expert in the area of ac and/or dc traction power system load flow analysis software such as ETSA, TOM, or TRAIN.

Skills related to project management and monitoring project budgets using Earned Value Analysis.

Knowledge of project proposal preparation is a plus.

Compensation Range:$122,808.00 - $163,744.00
