Job Description Summary
The University of Pennsylvania Libraries seek an energetic, service-oriented, forward-thinking Librarian to be the primary subject specialist to the School of Nursing (SON), consistently ranked as the number one nursing school in the world according to QS World University Rankings by Subject.
The Librarian will work closely with students, faculty, and staff, proactively providing and embedding in-depth support for innovation, research, teaching, and learning.
Reporting to the Director of the Holman Biotech Commons, the Nursing Librarian is a member of the information services team, and provides a wide range of library services to all communities served by the Biotech Commons, which includes, but is not limited to, SON, Penn Medicine and the Perelman School of Medicine, interdisciplinary Masters Programs and the Department of Biology.
Provides research consultations, orientations, curriculum-integrated instruction, and workshops and is the primary librarian to the School of Nursing, with a focusus on undergraduate students.
Supports SON faculty research and publishing, and participates in the Systematic Review Service.
Provides instructional, reference, and research support to all communities served by the Holman Biotech Commons.
Develops the Nursing collection of print and electronic resources and evidence-based content. Manages an annual collections budget and advocates for appropriate levels of funding to support changing needs.
Collaborates with colleagues across the Penn Libraries system for new and improved services.
Seeks new opportunities to integrate library resources, instruction, and services into the SON curriculum; attends undergraduate nursing curriculum committee meetings.
Works with SON faculty, staff, and students to assess their need for and to facilitate their use of new technologies and spaces.
Works closely with the Clincial & Graduate Research Librarian and the Clinical Liaison Librarian to provide outreach and support to the UPHS and graduate nursing communities.
Participates on committees and task forces at SON and within the Penn Libraries.
MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or the equivalent in theory and practice, or other relevant degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Nursing or health sciences subject expertise. Teaching experience or demonstrated ability. Demonstrated collaborative strengths and strong communication skills. Understanding of evidence-based practice and systematic reviews. Commitment to professional growth and active involvement in professional organizations and activities.
