Philadelphia Housing Authority Network Technician II in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Marketing Statement

 

Under the general supervision of the Network Technician Supervisor, Network Technician II (L2) setups, maintains, documents MDF and IDF of PHA HQ and remote offices along with endpoints. Duties include end-user technical support by identifying, troubleshooting, resolving and maintaining devices such as workstations, tablets, cellphones, VOIP phones/CISCO hardware, security badges and software installation and configurations, including data center equipment such as switches, servers and peripheral equipment for the Information Systems Management (ISM) Department. Responsibility includes analyzing and fixing network-related problems reported by end-users or L3 Administrators when applicable.

Annual salary $65,000.00

 

 

Qualifications

 

Competencies (Skills, knowledge, abilities)

Product knowledge and technical skills to install PC components and operating systems; Analyzing basic network problems, evaluating alternatives, and developing solutions based on findings; Maintaining network hardware, switches, routers, and network cabling requirements.; Analyzing equipment and system malfunctions, troubleshooting computers and software applications, and determining effective solutions; Troubleshoot network issues quickly by identifying the sources of the problem; Solving technical problems involving multiple operating systems, applications, and platforms; Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands; Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds; Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers; Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software; Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Certifications, Licenses required

A valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Driver's License is required.

Preferred Certifications: CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA A+, and MCSA: Windows Server 2016

  • None

Physical Demands, Activities, Work environment conditions.

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment. Physical dexterity is required to work in confined spaces and use precision tools and equipment; requires vision capacity to perform fine calibrations and differentiate between colored wires. Required to regularly lift up to 50lbs.

Travel required

  • Limited travel to PHA sites as warranted.

Minimum education

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Networking, Information Systems; AND 

Minimum experience

Three (3) or more years of experience with hardware and software diagnostics and maintenance, within a corporate IT environment; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

 

Responsibilities

 

Setups, maintains, documents, monitors, track and manages network concentration areas (MDF, IDF) components such as, not limited to,  UPS, PDU, physical security, environmental control; Supports Data Center and remote network rooms' operations including physical tasks such as swapping devices such as backup tapes, network switches-routers, servers and other network attached devices including labeling these components using label makerInstalls, maintains networked printers' drivers in printer serversConfigure, test and document, deploy endpoints in mass deployment events; Tests, captures, updates and maintains endpoints software images utilizing software such as IvantiTravels to remote sites to set and maintain end-user IT equipment in their workspace such as workstations, printers, fax, scanners, and CISCO VOIP phones; Troubleshoot and resolve wired and wireless network switches and routersTroubleshoot and resolve endpoints problemsAssists with network security tasks*Supports end-user calls, emails and walk-ins when directed in effort of supporting L1 activities; Monitoring alerts from various bu lding probes (Solarwind, PHAPD Command Center, etc...); Provide support in configuring and deploying WAP; Properly maintain objects in Active Directory's Organizational Units and related objects; Configures and installs desktop computers, notebook computers, and mobile devices in response to the demands of a complex network environment; Documents all changes; performs backup and restore functions; Patching Data Center network attached devices during Sundays and provide support after business hours or holidays when needed; Occasionally travel to other offices, with possible overnights and afterhours stays; Maintains work log of service requests, equipment malfunctions, software errors, failures, and technical configurations; identifies and reports trends and technical problems which need to be addressed by improved methodologies, procedures, and policies; Stays abreast of trends and innovations in information systems issues and policies; Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and PHA information; performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned; Participates in an afterhours and on-call activities during critical service disruptions; Undertaking of IT related assignments, as directed; Other duties as assigned *
