Job Summary The Part-time Health Ambassador plays a vital role within the Lazarex Cancer Wellness HUB team, facilitating the implementation and navigation of cancer care for vulnerable West Philadelphia residents. This role holds immense significance in driving the success of the cancer care initiative. Operating under the guidance of the Cancer Care Companion, Health Ambassadors will actively engage, provide support, advocate for, and educate community members regarding cancer, screening, treatment, and clinical trial aspects. Through community outreach and engagement, they will establish connections between community residents and the Cancer Care Companion at the Lazarex Cancer Wellness HUB, enabling seamless access to necessary services. Their advocacy will address community residents' cancer-related health needs and overcome barriers hindering their access to cancer screening, treatment, and clinical trials. As a bridge, they will foster communication between the Lazarex Cancer Wellness HUB and the community residents within the West Philadelphia and Promise Zone neighborhoods. Essential Functions Outreach and Community Engagement: create and implement outreach strategies to identify places for education conversations at sites such as barbershops, laundromats, nail and hair salons, barbershops, senior centers, recreations centers, faith-based organizations, business centers, and community centers in the 10 Promise Zone Neighborhoods. Engage and recruit community residents to attend various programs at the Lazarex Cancer Wellness HUB and to the Cancer Care Companion, who will connect them to cancer information, referrals for screening, treatment, survivor support, and clinical trials. Tracking & Documentation: Using computer skills, will complete navigation and tracking forms electronically, document all community encounters, maintain comprehensive electronic contact files, schedule appointments, and submit weekly reports to the Project Manager. They will maintain contact with community members and follow up with them on their scheduled cancer screenings, treatments, and clinical trials to ensure needs are being met, identify barriers to accessing cancer screenings and clinical care, and work with the team to create strategies to reduce barriers and accompany community members to appointments. Team Activities: They will perform special project assignments required and work collaboratively and effectively with fellow Ambassadors and other team members, attend team meetings, and perform other work-related duties as requested. Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED 0-2 years of relevant experience Must reside, work, or be affiliated with a faith based or community organization in one of the following West Philadelphia neighborhoods: 19104, 19131, 19139, 19143, 19151 Cultural Competency: Understanding and respecting the community's diverse cultural backgrounds and traditions is vital for building trust and creating effective health programs. Preferred Qualifications Comfortable communicating and connecting with community members of all backgrounds. Ability to recruit and connect community members to participate in cancer education, screening, treatment, and clinical trials. Ability to talk to people about cancer prevention, screening, treatment, and clinical trials after training. Good verbal and written communication skills Ability to motivate others and connect people to programs, services, and resources at the Lazarex Cancer Wellness HUB Passion for helping the community. Ability to build and maintain relationships with community residents, clinical partners, and Drexel staff. Flexibility with scheduling, including working on some weekends and evenings. Capacity to canvas neigh orhoods on foot to engage in street outreach. Ability to walk and talk and to engage community residents in various neighborhoods. Ability to accurately log and track daily activities/outreach. Excellent computer skills in data input data, writing related program reports and using related software applications. Physical Demands Typically sitting at a desk/table Typically standing, walking Location University City - Philadelphia, PA Additional Information This position is classified as Non-Exempt with a grade of G, $15.58 - $23.37.  The offered pay is dependent upon internal equity and the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience.
