WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview):

This position will perform daily lead functions in the National Molecular Laboratory, a busy CLIA-licensed, AABB-accredited molecular testing laboratory responsible for patient and blood donor testing. Review test results. Participate in problem-solving. Lead QC and preventative maintenance functions. Demonstrate excellent customer service and a positive professional image. Adhere to explicit standard operating procedures and interpret test results following the applicable regulatory requirements. Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures, Safety Quality Identity Potency Purity (SQUIPP), regulations outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Information Act (CLIA), and other applicable Federal, state and local regulations. Provide support, development, and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE GOOD (Key Responsibilities):

  • Perform duties associated with receipt of donor and patent specimens.

  • Perform extraction of genomic DNA from peripheral blood or buccal swab samples by both manual and automated methods.

  • Perform spectrophotometry for DNA quality assessment.

  • Perform genotyping procedures, including PCR amplification for gel-based, array-based, and mass spectrometry-based genotyping by commercial and lab-developed tests.

  • Review and interpret results and prepare reports written and electronic.

  • Perform daily equipment maintenance checks and routine equipment maintenance.

  • Perform reagent qualification.

  • Assist with reagent and supply inventory management

    Standard Schedule: 1st shift 10:30am - 7pm M-F

    Pay Information: $25-30/hr

    WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, Medial Technology or related field required.

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of molecular testing experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Experience with molecular techniques including genomic DNA extraction, PCR, genotyping including array-based genotyping, Sanger sequencing, good manufacturing practices, multi-channel pipetting, DNA extraction, genotyping, and use of standard molecular biology laboratory instrumentation.

  • Skills & Abilities: Hands-on knowledge of molecular biology-related reagents, equipment, and software. Effective oral and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to work on a team and independently.

    Physical Requirements

You must be able to stand for long periods of time, repeat the same movements, and use your hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This job requires the ability to hear and speak clearly. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The work environment will consist of moderate noise. The employee must be able to react quickly using hands, fingers, or feet. This job may require the employee to be able to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out. This position will require the ability to use the stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods of time and the ability to keep or regain the body's balance or stay upright when in an unstable position. The employee must be able to frequently use one or two hands to grasp, move or assemble objects. The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
