DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Tetra Tech's High Performance Buildings Division is actively seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical (HVAC) Engineer. The qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in mechanical design specific to design and construction documentation for HVAC systems in new and existing buildings. In addition, the successful candidate must possess the skills required to execute project tasks, have a strong work ethic and be a collaborative team player. This person will work closely with senior-level mechanical engineering staff and assist in the development of design documents including engineering reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.

Additional Locations: Ann Arbor, MI / Huntsville, AL / Chicago, IL / Will consider other locations as well.

Your contributions will include: Performing building HVAC system design on a variety of projects with direction from a senior mechanical engineer. Project types will include military base facilities, aircraft hangars, commercial buildings, laboratories, and manufacturing facilities. Performing HVAC load calculations, energy models, and life cycle cost analyses in conformance with applicable codes and energy efficiency standards. Coordinating with other disciplines and external team members (e.g., vendors, clients, and contractors). Preparing construction documents including drafting utilizing Revit. Performing construction assistance in the form of responding to contractor RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and construction site visits.

Required Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university. * Minimum 4+ years of experience in HVAC systems design. * Product knowledge of overall building HVAC systems and ability to size and select and layout HVAC components, including fans, chillers, ductwork systems, cooling towers, air handlers, boilers, pumps, and controls. * Hold a Professional Engineering License or desire to obtain on in the future. * Proficiency utilizing Trane Trace for cooling and heating load calculations but similar experience in other platforms such as Carrier HAP, EnergyPlus, or EQuest is also acceptable. Revit / BIM experience is a must. * Excellent communication and computer skills. * Ability to occasionally travel as required for project execution. * Must be U.S. Citizen due to certain contractual obligations.

Preferred Qualifications: * Familiarity with design of plumbing systems and energy calculations. * Experience with RS Means, and general exposure to construction cost estimating.
