POSITION SUMMARY
The Manager, Quality Systems, is responsible for managing and maintaining the organization's Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with industry regulations and standards. This role leads quality initiatives, manages internal and external audits, and ensures continuous improvement in quality processes and practices to enhance product and service quality. The Quality Systems Manager collaborates with various departments to ensure quality objectives are met and customer satisfaction is achieved.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Quality Management System (QMS) Oversight: Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 9001, contractual requirements).
- Compliance Management: Ensure that the organization complies with relevant regulatory, legal, and customer-specific requirements related to quality systems and standards.
- Audit Management: Plan, coordinate, and manage internal and external audits (ISO, customer, etc.), including the preparation and response to audit findings and corrective actions.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance product quality, reduce costs, and increase operational efficiency.
- Documentation Control: Oversee document control systems, ensuring that all quality-related documents (SOPs, work instructions, protocols) are current, accessible, and appropriately reviewed and approved.
- Non-Conformance and CAPA Management: Manage the investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes for non-conformances and deviations.
- Training & Development: Develop and deliver quality-related training programs to ensure staff compliance with QMS and quality procedures.
- Risk Management: Implement risk management processes to identify and mitigate quality risks, ensuring proactive quality assurance throughout the product lifecycle.
- Supplier Quality Management: Collaborate with the procurement and supplier teams to ensure supplier quality standards and processes are adhered to, including supplier audits and performance evaluations.
- Reporting & Metrics: Track and report on key quality metrics (e.g., defect rates, audit results, CAPA status) and provide insights to senior leadership on quality performance.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with departments such as production, engineering, and customer service to ensure that quality standards are met across all organizational functions.
Customer Complaints Management: Oversee the resolution of customer complaints related to product quality, ensuring timely investigation and resolution to enhance customer satisfaction.

Preferred: A master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CQE, CQM) is a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certifications: Certified Quality Manager (CQM), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), or Six Sigma Black Belt certification is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of quality management systems (ISO, AS9100, etc.), statistical process control, and other quality assurance methodologies.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team while fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data and findings to senior management and customers.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsof Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as quality management software and ERP systems.
CERTIFICATIONS:
- Certified Quality Manager (CQM), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), or similar qualifications are highly desirable.
Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement certifications are a plus.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in quality systems management, preferably in a government contractor, construction or manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with QMS implementation, ISO standards, and regulatory audits.
SKILLS:
- Strong knowledge of ISO standards and quality concepts
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to lead root cause analysis and CAPA processes.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with a focus on coaching and mentoring.
- Proficiency in quality management software and tools (e.g., ERP systems, QMS software).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The performance of this position involves exposure to construction or industrial areas where the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats and hearing protection is required.
- Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing, walking, and driving in an automobile
May require walking and standing on irregular, uneven surfaces in an industrial setting and possibly at increased heights climbing and descending ladders and ship stairways.
