Community College of Philadelphia Language Arts Instructor, Part- Time (Non-Credit) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Posting Details Position Information Language Arts Instructor, Part- Time Non-CreditFAC00510The TRIO Upward Bound Program at the Community College of Philadelphia is in search of an experienced, energetic English instructor to facilitate a 5-week introductory composition or literature course. The course will be for rising 10th -12th graders from the Philadelphia School District participating in this extra-curricular college prep program aimed at potential first-generation college students from low-income households.

The class will be held at the main campus of the Community College of Philadelphia Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning Monday June 23rd and ending Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025. There are three sections of the class, each one hour long with approximately 12-15 students per class. Classes begin at 9:40 am and end at 12:50pm. The position pays $40.00 dollars and hour, 3 hours per day x 14 teaching days. Course hours may change at the discretion of the course needs, however the hours described above are currently the prescribed hours. All candidates must have child abuse clearances, FBI fingerprinting, PA State Criminal Background Checks and have completed the Child Abuse Recognition and Reporter Training within the past 5 years or renew certifications/course completion prior to start date.

All applicants must have a bachelor's degree and teaching experience, preferably in a high school setting. Interested applicants should submit cover letter, resume and two references by April 4, 2025.

Teach three sections of the class, each lasting one hour, with approximately 12-15 students per class. Develop lesson plans and course content focused on introductory English composition or literature, tailored to the needs of high school students preparing for college. Track academic progress and provide necessary support to ensure students' growth in the subject matter. Foster a dynamic, energetic classroom atmosphere conducive to learning and personal growth for first-generation, low-income students. Maintain required child abuse clearances, FBI fingerprinting, PA State Criminal Background Checks, and complete the Child Abuse Recognition and Reporter Training if not already current. Be flexible with course schedule adjustments based on the needs of the program, as directed by the course requirements. Demonstrate a sense of connection and responsibility for helping the College to achieve success through a commitment to its mission, vision, and values. Teaching experience with high school age students is required.

Bachelor's degree can be in another field if high school age teaching experience directly relates to content area of literature or composition.Demonstrated experience teaching diverse student populations and addressing equity gaps.
