U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Technician in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Summary About the Position: A senior engineering technician is instrumental in the construction and project management of US Army Corps of Engineering Floating Plant construction projects. Projects include floating plant such as barges, dredges, floating cranes, towboats, and survey boats. The work performed is conventional and non-conventional in nature. The selection of sound alternatives and the use of initiative and sound judgment are needed in order to plan and coordinate assignments. Responsibilities Makes alternate scale layouts to ensure that all designs are feasible, and arrangements, materials and construction details will fit in the proper spaces. Plans and conducts necessary study and analysis to ensure that the general arrangement and layout is compatible with the overall project. Serves as a mentor for lower-level Engineering Technicians. Considers additional modifications, which may be necessary or desirable to provide a more economical or progressive arrangement. Conducts field inspections to document construction progress and also to secure or clarify information relative to changes. Checks shop drawings such as those involving structural steel, complex mechanical items, machine design, and miscellaneous items prepared by shipyards and suppliers for compliance with contract plans and specifications. Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level of GS-11 in the Federal Service performing: (1) Performing shipyard construction quality assurance oversight; (2) Performing ship checks and inspections of floating plant; and (3) Performing design development for marine vessels and floating plant such as dredges, towboats, survey vessels, floating cranes, and various types of barges. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to Detail Compliance Inspection Design Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent GS-11. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
