A Brief Overview Under the general supervision of the Lead and Supervisor: perform outpatient and/or inpatient phlebotomy, process laboratory specimens, data entry, and specimen transport as ordered by the respective physicians. Must exhibit the ability to work independently and provide customer service using CHOP ICARE values and Service Standards.

What you will do Phlebotomy - Outpatient/Inpatient Identify patient as per established procedures Review orders in the hospital information system and laboratory information system and release orders Perform venipuncture and capillary phlebotomy following established procedures Correctly label specimens and verify patient identity Central Lab Services - Specimen Processing Assess specimen requirements and specimen integrity Triage, accession, process, and deliver specimens following established procedures Store specimens according to laboratory-specific storage directives as needed Customer Service Face-to-face Guided by CHOP ICARE Values and Service Standards Interfacing with patients, laboratory staff, medical staff, medical courier, and vendors Provide a patient-centric collaborative experience Diffuse anger or frustration, aim to provide solutions Answer questions and provide support Phone Proper phone etiquette following established procedures Ensure a warm tone of voice Diffuse anger or frustration, aim to provide solutions Answer question and provide support Call critical lab values to clinician Specimen handling Treat each specimen as a person Exhaust all options when problem-solving to avoid re-collection Equipment maintenance Maintain and clean medical laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifuges, vortex, refrigerator, freezers) Limited messenger service as required Promptly delivers specimens or paperwork throughout the health care campus as required. Promptly activates and executes the pneumatic tube downtime procedures as required Is knowledgeable in the use of resources to identify transport temperatures for all specimens and ensure stability Scheduling Must be flexible in scheduling and cooperation in performing all assigned tasks Responsible for working rotating on-call, weekends, and holidays Performs other duties as assigned by the Phlebotomy and Central Lab Services leadership team

The department is currently hiring for a variety of shifts: 4:30am-1:00pm (free parking) 10:00am-6:30pm 2:30pm-11:00pm (free parking + shift differential)

You will also share weekend coverage on every third weekend.

Education Qualifications High School Diploma / GED Required Technical Diploma Phlebotomy Preferred Experience Qualifications Scientific laboratory Preferred Skills and Abilities Knowledge: basic biology, basic chemistry, English language, customer service, public safety and security Technology skills: electronic mail, Microsoft Office appl cations, typing, internet software, Microsoft Windows Other skills: active listening, reading comprehension, critical thinking, speaking, complex problem solving, monitoring, time management, writing, active learning, coordination, judgment and decision making, service orientation, social perceptiveness. Abilities: oral expression, near vision, manual dexterity, perceptual speed, information ordering, problem sensitivity, oral comprehension, finger dexterity, written comprehension, arm-hand steadiness, deductive reasoning, selective attention, speech clarity, speech recognition, visual color discrimination, writing expression, number facility Licenses and Certifications Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) - upon hire - Preferred or Certified Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) - ASCP - The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) - upon hire - Preferred
