The Boni research group is focused on mathematical modeling of response strategies to the current urgent problem in Africa of responding to the recent (2020-2021) emergence of artemisinin resistance on the continent. These mathematical models are used to evaluate different response strategies when drug resistance levels are too high. Our research group is currently building national-level mathematical models of malaria transmission for five African countries to forecast their drug-resistance situations several years into the future. The Assistant Research Associate will play a vital role in assembling data for different countries' epidemiological and drug-resistance situations, parameterization of country-level scenarios with all the assembled data and building and/or visualizing additional models to make near-term and long-term malaria forecasts. Perform other duties as assigned. This is a grant funded position. Required Education & Experience: Candidates are required to have a Master's degree in biology or any computational field like statistics, applied math, data science, or computer science (or other relevant field) and twelve months of related research experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience in scientific language and computational tools like R, Python, MATLAB and/or C++ Familiar with computational methods in the techniques or simulations. Required Skills & Abilities: Ability to demonstrate knowledge of computational epidemiology, individual based simulation, spatial modeling of epidemics and other geospatial software. Ability to show proficiency in data management. Ability to exhibit attention to detail and manage several complex tasks simultaneously. Preferred: Experience in an academic research environment.
