Transportation Engineer IPerforms transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Transportation Engineer IIPerforms complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties for Transportation Engineer I:Assists in overseeing construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.Assists in reviewing shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures.Assists in the development of specifications for special bridge design details and projects.Assists Project Managers related to resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and/or procurement, while utilizing available resources and maintaining the agency's project objectives.Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.Assists with the development of design and project development reports, surveys and correspondence.Conducts pre-construction meetings and public hearings.Provides technical assistance in drainage design, resolution of drainage complaints, hydraulics evaluations and other hydrology matters.Reviews designs and detailed drawings of bridges and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Essential Duties for Transportation Engineer II:Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.Develops specifications for special bridge design details and projects.Negotiates and/or oversees the negotiation of fees, explains scope of work and monitors State and Local Government consultant design contracts.Oversees construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.Reviews shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures.Conducts pre-construction meetings and public hearings.Monitors State and Local Government consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares and reviews supplemental agreements.Reviews designs and detailed drawings of bridges and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians.Reviews, processes and certifies project design plans developed by State and Local Government consulting engineers.Uses department's enterprise Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule and resource management tool to accomplish scheduling and resource management, and oversight of State and Local Government of transportation projects.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
