PFLUGERVILLE-CITY OF Engineer/Senior Engineer (Utilities) in Pflugerville, Texas

Engineers for the City review engineering items related to development projects including preliminary plans, site plans, final plats, public infrastructure construction plans, traffic impact analysis, and right of way permits. The ideal candidate would be capable of exercising engineering knowledge to review, analyze, discuss, and make recommendations regarding a variety of complex engineering assignments within defined methods, procedures, and practices.

Engineer - $76,856-$96,069

  • Assists the Engineering Manager or Senior Engineer with updates to ordinances and updates to the Engineering Design Manual and construction Standards as needed.
  • Review preliminary plans, site plans, final plats, public infrastructure construction plans, traffic impact analysis, floodplain and drainage reports, engineering reports, and right of way permits.
  • Prepare technical documents necessary to support ordinance requests to the City Council.
  • May assist City Engineer with developing the City's annual capital improvement plan and managing capital improvement projects: provide input into cost estimates and right-of-way acquisitions; create preliminary designs; perform preliminary reviews.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager or Senior Engineer with reports, delegation of projects and with City Council or Commission meetings/agendas including internal department meetings.
  • Provides support with city inspectors for any field related/job site inspection and issues.
  • Represent the City on various local and regional utility related work groups and interface with developers, state, county or municipal representatives or other city staff members and officials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

Formal Education:Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Relatable Work Experience:One (1) year of experience in Civil Engineering. Training, Licenses, or Certifications:Professional Engineering registration by the State of Texas or the ability to gain within three (3) years of employment. Valid Class C Texas Driver's License. Preferred Qualifications:Experience within a Municipal or County government, with emphasis in utility, streets, and drainage projects.

Senior Engineer - $88,970-$111,212

  • Assists the Engineering Manager with updates to ordinances, changes in the Unified Development Code if applicable, and updates to the Engineering Design Manual and construction Standards as needed.
  • Review preliminary plans, site plans, final plats, public infrastructure construction plans, traffic impact analysis, floodplain and drainage reports, engineering reports, and right of way permits.
  • Prepare technical documents necessary to support ordinance requests to the City Council.
  • Coordinate with other City departments including on projects that will affect these departments.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager with reports, delegation of projects and with City Council and Commission meetings/agendas including internal department meetings.
  • Provides support with city inspectors for any field related/job site inspection and issues.
  • Works with Environmental Specialist on the City of Pflugerville's MS4 permit if applicable, including compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Assist in negotiating development agreements and contracts as authorized or assigned.
  • Represent the City on various local and regional utility related work groups and interface with developers, state, county or municipal representatives or other city staff members and officials. Report results, follow up on commitments and make decisions as authorized.
  • Interpret, amend, or update codes and standards as assigned; remain current regarding developing trends and changes in federal, state, and local regulatory practices.
  • Train department staff as requested by Engineering Manager; may oversee the work of and train departmental personnel in project management, technical engineering reviews, and other related tasks.
  • Attend and make presentations to City Council and Commission meetings, as required; interface with other City and community organizations, as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

Formal Education:Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Relatable Work Experience:Eight (8) years as a professional engineer performing work consistent with essential functions of this position. Training, Licenses, or Certifications:Professional Engineering registration by the State of Texas. Valid Class C Texas Driver's License. Preferred Qualifications:Experience within a Municipal or County government, with emphasis in Development Services or Utility Projects. Certified Floodplain Administrator.

Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is define as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
