This internship position is participating in the TXWORKS (https://www.highered.texas.gov/plan-pay-complete-college/paying-for-college/txworks-internship-program/) program. The City of Pflugerville is seeking an Animal Care Technician Intern for the summer session! The dates for this internship are May 13, 2024 - August 12, 2024. The person we seek will believe in and exhibit the City's P.F.I.R.S.T. core values: Positive, Forward-thinking, Integrity, Resilience, Service, and Teamwork. As an Animal Care Technician Intern for the City, you will be assisting Animal Care Technicians with completing daily duties in animal care including feeding and exercising animals and providing medical care.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Clean and disinfect all dog kennels, cat cages, outdoor kennels, portable carries used, and other animal cages. Feed and water all shelter animals as required. Interact with, walk, and exercise all animals as demeaned as appropriate.

  • Administers required medications and vaccinations.

  • Assists Animal Care Techs with administering required vaccinations and medications.

  • Assists Animal Care Techs with animal exams, microchipping, blood draws for FeLv and Heartworm testing, performing fecal tests, and other diagnostic tests as needed.

  • Assists staff as needed with intake, adoption, and reclaiming of animals.

  • Provides quality customer service to city staff, the public, and all other work contacts.

  • Transport animals to and from vet clinics and adoption events as needed.

  • Other educational/training-related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

    Formal Education: Currently enrolled in a degree plan with a university or Community College. Training, Licenses, and Certifications: Valid driver's license.
