We are seeking an Automation Engineer (1-year Contract) for our Peterborough, ON location.
BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada (BWXT NEC) is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing and service of on-power refueling and reactor maintenance tooling sold around the world. IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
Design, implement and test modern PLC-based control systems for robotic applications in nuclear power plants and products.
Translate requirements and design descriptions into PLC code, using the following programming languages:
Function Block Diagrams
Sequential Function Charts
Perform system tests within our Peterborough location.
Architecting and designing new control system software, and extending existing systems to accommodate new functionality.
Coordinating with other engineering disciplines to produce consistent, integrated designs with well-defined interfaces.
Interfacing with vendors on technical support issues.
Interfacing directly with customer technical personnel to support and service installed systems at Canadian nuclear generating stations.
Writing other design, test, installation and maintenance documents.
Working within customer processes to make technical decisions, provide technical documentation, apply concepts to issues of varying complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
Experience with industrial automation technologies including but not limited to:
PLC, HMI, SCADA
Motor and motor controls
Valves (solenoid, pneumatic or motor actuated)
Sensors and feedback controls/signal conditioning
Experience working with and generating design documentation including but not limited to:
Experience preparing technical documents in English, and presenting technical material to internal and external customers in person.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to interface with project team members, vendors and customers to ensure scope and requirements of the project are understood, and to ensure the project is executed per the project schedule and budget.
Must be able to work on scheduled tasks independently and interface with other team members with varying functions (project managers, mechanical designers, software designers, etc).
Full or limited engineering license through PEO, or ability to obtain same.
Experience in the Canadian nuclear industry, or another highly-regulated industry (aerospace, defense, medical, etc.).
Experience with Schneider PLC and HMI range of products would be an advantage.
