Job Title: Product Marketing Manager

Salary Grade: £63,500 - £69,800

Location : Peterborough

Job Summary

A fantastic opportunity is available for a Product Marketing Manager to join our Sales, Marketing, Servicing & Parts (SMSP) Product Marketing team based in Peterborough.

Product Marketing Managers sit at the intersection of Product, Marketing, Sales and Customer Success. As the Product Marketing Manager, you will act as the voice of the customer for a portfolio of diesel engines, ensuring new product development and product improvement programs deliver on critical customer requirements. You will develop market studies and business cases for product development projects, to drive growth in new and existing segments and markets. You will then follow this through the Caterpillar New Product Introduction (NPI) process and lead a team accountable for the launch to the market, communicating the vision and value of the products through sales tools, value messaging, and marketing tactics. In this role you will also support the development of our future product strategies including, electrification, hybrids, hydrogen technologies, low carbon fuels, and future emissions technologies.

Additional Info :

Travel requirements – approximately 25% annually.

What You Will Do:

  • Serve as the company-wide subject matter expert (SME) on a product range across the 4P’s (product, price, place, promotion), assisting functional groups and senior management in interpreting product insights and leveraging competitive analysis and market trends

  • Lead the Sales & Marketing input into the NPI process and strategic initiatives, through the creation and presentation of robust business cases and business development strategies, aligned to customers and marketplace requirements driving profitable growth

  • Partner with Strategy, Market Insights, Sales and Product teams to build a comprehensive and aligned view of your products, the markets and customers which we serve, and the medium- and long-term vision for growth

  • Develop and execute the product Go to Market (GTM) plans, pulling on wider marketing teams to ensure a successful product launch to the market

  • Define and present recommendations for business development to senior management through commercial business cases to gain business commitment

  • Translate customer and market requirements into actionable product requirements

  • Enable effective selling by building and communicating compelling customer value propositions and threading these throughout the GTM plan and all sales tools

  • Participate in developing multi-year product plans, providing competitive analysis to support business planning

  • Craft compelling product value propositions and unique selling points that set the product apart from the rest

  • Brief the press, public relations (PR) teams and internal groups on new products and services to be launched in the market

  • Manage metrics, dashboards and supporting management tools in place to monitor performance and develop processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, customer experience (CX) and accelerate adoption

What You Have:

Customer Focus: Knowledge of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and ability to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions. Strong market research skills with the ability to source, verify, and synthesize large amounts of customer voice into critical customer requirements.

Data Gathering & Analysis: Detail-oriented, with strong knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment. Discipline in documenting sources and validating the accuracy of data analysis by evaluating the pros and cons of data analysis methods used, with ongoing evaluation of best practices of data gathering and analysis within the industry.

Strategic and Critical Thinking: Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive recommendations based on informed judgment. Identifies, obtains and organizes relevant data and ideas, assessing risks, benefits and consideration of alternatives along the way. Knowledge of the importance of "big picture" thinking and planning; ability to apply organizational acumen and competitiveness to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization.

Effective Communications: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs. Ability to translate customer requirements into technical requirements, influence on recommendations, and translate technical concepts into customer benefits, to back up compelling value propositions.

Relationship Management: Open, approachable attitude, with the ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with diverse stakeholders across functional groups, channel partners, customers, vendors, and peers.

Value Selling: Knowledge of the principles and practices for selling products, technology and services; ability to provide overall product/service 'value' and to differentiate support offerings that address clearly understood customer needs. Ability to quantify proposed costs, benefits and value in customer terms.

Top Candidates may also have

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another technical field, or equivalent product management or technical marketing or sales expertise in diesel IC engines.

  • Previous customer facing or sales experience

  • Experience of the Caterpillar NPI process

  • Project management or Six Sigma black belt experience
