Job Purpose:

The Engineering Assistant will be working in a quality oriented, safety minded, 5 S metal cutting environment. This is a “hands on” shop floor position that will spend at least half of the day working closely with the machinist and operators and it requires effective communication skills with all levels of plant personnel.

Education / Training:

• Associate's degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering or related field of study preferred, or the equivalent of education and work experience is required.

Key Job Elements:

Minimum Duties and Responsibilities:

• Program parts using Mastercam software & 3D Models;

• Program parts using G-Code programming;

• Create programming macros using Visual Basic;

• Maintain fixture procedures;

• Familiarity with Fanuc controls;

• Helps write shop floor operating procedures;

• Helps troubleshoot shop floor issues;

• Helps with checking of programs;

• Responsible for shop floor improvements and processes.

Advanced Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assists and manages processes and programming related to new machine acquisition and start up;

• Design and development of in-house programming;

• Development of all standard operating procedures;

• In depth trouble shooting analysis to edit and correct issues related to fixturing or tooling;

• Multi-Axis CNC programming.

• Detail oriented and thorough in completing work tasks;

• Honest and ethical;

• Pleasant with others on the job and displaying a good-natured, cooperative attitude;

• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of plant personnel;

• Reliable, responsible, and dependable, and diligent in fulfilling obligations.

Preferred Skills

• Mastercam Software proficiency;

• Visual Basic Macro writing through Microsoft Excel;

• AutoCad proficiency;

• Multi-Axis CNC programming.

Essential and Physical Activities

• Strength – Must be able to lift 35 lbs;

• Motion – Incumbents require sufficient mobility for walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; The position spends equal amounts of time between the office sitting at computer and standing, walking on facility floor;

• Vision/Hearing Requirements – May spend long periods of time in front of computer screen;

• Work Environment – Work outside in 0–100 degree F, High noise levels (above 85 decibels); Position requires constantly standing and walking; Exposure to dirt, dust and confined spaces. Must be capable of wearing PPE (safety glasses, hardhats, metatarsal boots, earplugs, gloves, etc.) No jewelry (on shop);

• Emotional Demands – Must have good communications;

• Safety – Not a safety sensitive position, but does requires the use of PPE when in a production environment.
