About Construction Industries:

Construction Industries (CI) is primarily responsible for supporting customers using machinery in infrastructure and building construction applications. This includes business strategy, product design, product management and development, manufacturing, marketing and sales and product support. The segment’s product offerings span across three major divisions.

Job Summary:

The Director of Strategy in CI will provide leadership in setting the strategy for some of the most critical segment-level initiatives driving profitable growth. The role is a trusted partner to the CI Leadership team. It has responsibility for identifying and executing on opportunities to drive profitable growth across the entire Segment.

What You Will Do:

Strategy & Planning:

  • Lead a portfolio of the most impactful projects and corporate processes that position Caterpillar for long-term success.

  • Develop business cases in support of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) and asset acquisition targets, as required.

  • Provide support in establishing and executing an annual strategic planning process with the Executive team, business units and functions.

Executive Communication and Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Responsible for strategic prioritization and focus across multiple organizations, driving collaboration and coordination toward shared goals.

  • Work closely with cross-functional and leadership teams across the segment on strategic projects, bringing timely and useful insight and analytical support.

  • Communicate recommendations about financial results, operational priorities, and planning in a clear and compelling manner with the appropriate levels of insight and actions.

  • Support portions of the Group President’s regular Board reporting.

Problem Solving and Analytics:

  • Structure and solve business problems, collaborate, and coordinate with a range of internal stakeholders to make recommendations on a wide range of business issues.

  • Link assumptions to outcomes, to set targets and drive business in right direction, ensuring appropriate but achievable levels of stretch.

  • Develop rigorous, fact-based analysis to support recommendations, ensuring strategic and financial soundness and alignment for recommendations.

What You Will Have:

  • Strategic Thinking: Expert level knowledge of the importance of "big picture" thinking and planning; a thought leader; ability to apply organizational acumen, business acumen and competitiveness to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization.

  • Business Acumen: Extensive knowledge of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, recommendations, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

  • Global Perspective: Extensive knowledge of issues, opportunities, and challenges for conducting business in the international marketplace; ability to apply global perspectives appropriately in a wide range of situations.

  • Intellectual Curiosity: Knowledge of evolving the business to remain competitive; ability to learn and understand, adapt, and respond to and proactively seek changes and innovation in the business environment to improve the competitive advantage of an organization

  • Alignment: Demonstrated knowledge of the importance of collaboration across the Enterprise and the ability to engage and manage stakeholders in communicating, coordinating, and championing activities to support the organization's vision and strategies.

Additional Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree within Finance, Economics, Engineering, or other related fields.

  • Financial, competitive analysis, strategy, and/or M&A experiences, preferably within a large and/or multinational corporation.

  • Top candidates may have Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent degree

  • Preferred Location: Irving, TX. Secondary Location: Peoria, IL

  • 10% - 20% travel is expected.
