Independence For The Blind Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (VRT) in Pensacola, Florida

Rehabilitation Teacher of the Visually Impaired - Full time

**Position Summary: We at IB fully understand that certified instructors of the visually impaired are difficult to find. Furthermore, many caring individuals with Bachelor's level degrees in Psychology, Counseling, Education and Nursing might be interested in trying something different. Should you prove to be a good candidate, hold one of the named degrees, and wish to pursue the field, we may be willing to bring you aboard and train you to perform the functions.

You would start by pairing with certified instructors and begin to provide training services under our supervision. Simultaneously, we will lead you in the direction of becoming a Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT). The candidate would have to achieve the certification within a two year window from the hire date and, from next to the beginning, come up with a sound plan to make Certification come to fruition.

In general, CVRT's provide teaching services to individuals of all ages living with vision loss. Some examples of training will involve teaching adaptive techniques to communicate, organize belongings, and take care of other home and personal management needs that would otherwise present highly challenging having lost substantial or all vision. The new hire will report directly to the Director of Programs and is an integral member of the vision services team.

Primary Responsibilities:

Assess client's needs/goals in home and community environments.

Collaborate with the client to establish service goals and expectations.

Provide individualized vision rehabilitation services that address visual, physical, cognitive and psychosocial abilities related to adaptive independent living skills.

Teach independent living skills in areas of personal management, household management, communication, leisure activities, orientation and movement in an indoor environment, and use of low vision and adaptive devices and technology.

Superior time management and organizational skills.

Demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Write and organize case notes for clients and enter data collection in database.

Identify and collaborate with local, regional and national providers/agencies to address client needs.
