THE POSITION
Are you a detail-oriented research associate with excellent communication skills? The Office of the Governor’s Research Department is looking for a Research Associate to support the department’s work. This position gives you the opportunity to conduct due diligence research on individuals and companies ahead of any potential public engagement with them. Your work does not end there, you will also be monitoring and tracking the Administration’s actions to include any impact it may have on the Commonwealth.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with department interns, other teams within the Governor’s Office, and, as necessary, other stakeholders. You will be tasked with researching, tracking, and synthesizing the Shapiro Administration’s actions and impact through traditional news and social media for use in the Governor’s briefing memos, press releases, and the website. While working with your team, you will be providing background information on event locations, policy records, and other key pieces of information for the Governor’s briefing memos. You will also be responsible for researching policy statements, breaking news, and other topics as needed. This position assists the Director of Research in managing the department’s internship program. This includes hiring, training, and any day-to-day management tasks necessary to ensure the efficient operations of the office.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
Given the always-on nature of the Governor's Office, work outside 9-5 is expected, when needed.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to one day per week, if operational requirements allow. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- A minimum of 2 years of research experience with political campaigns or offices, with proven experience in journalism, legal, policy, or communication roles or projects.
Additional Requirements:
You must have accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
You must have exceptional organizational skills to stay on top of work with multiple deadlines.
You must have strong writing skills with the ability to break down complex issues into clear, concise writing.
You must have strong interpersonal communication skills.
You must have sharp political judgment and instincts, with an awareness of current Pennsylvania issues and news.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous campaign experience
Transferable experiences in journalism, legal, policy, or communication
Legal Requirements:
You must pass a background investigation.
