THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy is seeking a highly motivated Corrections Masonry Trade Instructor. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

A Corrections Masonry Trade Instructor provides structured masonry training at the journey level. You will demonstrate and explain professional masonry methods, procedures, and tools. Additionally, you will explain how diagrams, charts, manuals, and blueprints are used to perform this work. Supervisory skills are necessary to oversee on-the-job training, inspect work for adherence to masonry trade standards, and enforce security and custody regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.

  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $48,425.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in laying brick, blocks, and other types of building materials, and binding with mortar to construct or repair walls; or

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the masonry trade; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the masonry trade.

    Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
