DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, your main responsibility will be to evaluate and analyze the impact of proposed and existing transportation facilities on the environment. This includes conducting thorough assessments on various aspects such as land forms, air quality, noise levels, water quality, land use, cultural resources, socio-economic factors, scenic rivers, erosion and sedimentation controls, wetlands, storm water facilities, and threatened and endangered species. You will apply sound engineering principles and practices to ensure compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act and PA Act 120, in order to obtain environmental clearance for transportation projects.

Additionally, you will be responsible for preparing a variety of environmental documents related to these projects. This will involve attending scoping field views and providing guidance to design or consulting firms on the level of effort required for the preparation of an environmental document. You will also be involved in conducting fieldwork, such as identifying and delineating wetlands, conducting surveys on threatened and endangered species, investigating waste sites, evaluating construction waste and borrow sites, assessing erosion and sedimentation control measures, inspecting storm water facilities, and assisting field personnel in resolving any construction or maintenance issues.

As part of your role, you will utilize Global Positioning System (GPS) surveying equipment to stakeout areas and collect surveying data. This data will be used to develop plans for wetland delineation, ensuring compliance with both environmental and engineering principles and practices. You will also be responsible for initiating any necessary follow-up and monitoring of clearance documents to ensure that clearances do not lapse.

In order to effectively carry out your responsibilities, you will establish and maintain strong relationships with federal, state, and local environmental agencies.
