Job Summary: 

Promote healthy living while enjoying the benefits of a flexible schedule! The Per Diem Bilingual Educator will be responsible for translation of materials, delivery of nutrition education programs, and/or interpretation at FBSJ service sites throughout Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem counties. The Bilingual Educator will teach health and wellness classes in English and another language.  The Bilingual Educator will be paid $50/hour and work on an as-needed basis with the ability to select and sign-up for the class or demonstration preferred. Classes are taught during the day, evenings and weekends and may be either remote or in-person. The Bilingual Educator must be able to come in-person consistently to the main site in Pennsauken, NJ. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach health and wellness classes and lead healthy cooking demonstrations in both English and another language within the FBSJ target areas using provided curriculum; classes and demonstrations will be delivered virtually, hybrid or in-person

  • Responsible for administration of electronic or paper surveys and waivers to participants at each class and demonstration 

  • May translate FBSJ documents or education materials

  • May interpret at FBSJ programs in-person or virtually

  • May be responsible for set up prior to the start of class or demonstration and clean-up after completion

  • May transport food, cooking equipment and educational materials between Food Bank of South Jersey in Pennsauken and class sites

  • Local travel within Camden, Burlington, Gloucester and Salem counties required

    Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be fluent in both English and another language

  • Must be able to come to the main site in Pennsauken, NJ on a consistent basis 

  • Highly organized, flexible, adaptable and able to multi-task

  • Independent worker, self-starter and works well with a team and on his/her own

  • Comfortable using platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams

  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups

  • Comfortable working with and can effectively communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and opinions

  • Able to attend trainings on curriculum and follow class lessons as prescribed

  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends

  • Able to safely lift 35 pounds

  • Able to use personal vehicle to travel and transport equipment, food and class materials

    Qualifications and Experience:

  • Training in health, nutrition, dietetics or other wellness related field required; degree preferred

  • Proficiency in food safety and preparation

  • Proficiency in administrative tasks

  • Clean driver’s license

  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to carry and transport cooking equipment and supplies

  • Knowledge of common adult and child learning theories/models preferred

  • Knowledge of common behavior change theories/models preferred

  • Fluency in English and another language required
