POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Child Care Center Director, this position is accountable to assisting in the overall child care program at a YMCA Childcare Center. This includes assisting the Child Care Center Director in the training and supervision of all child care center staff, and daily program and administrative operations, including the education, health, welfare, and safety of the children enrolled in the child care center. The responsibilities also include processing payments, billing, mailing, data entry and collections for the child care center. The position is responsible for demonstrating leadership competencies to ensure mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Assist the Child Care Center Director with planning, organizing, and implementing the daily program schedule and curriculum at a site.
• Maintain all records, attendance, fire drills, sign in/out, behavior, and medical logs under regulations by OCFS, etc., as determined by the supervisor.
• Assist with supervising, training, evaluating, and mentoring staff and volunteers.
· Supports Director with registrations and processing payments for child care programs.
· Ensures proper billing cycles are set and payments are processed in a timely manner.
· Proactively collects payments on past due accounts.
• Cultivate and maintain a positive working relationship with staff, volunteers, and parents.
• Ensure clean facilities at the site.
• Create and maintain a safe and attractive learning environment.
• Visit classrooms regularly to provide support, visibility and ensure programs are at functioning at high quality levels.
• Communicate on a daily basis with parents/guardians regarding children and site/summer programs.
• Continually work to improve program, encouraging new program implementation and development.
• Apprise Child Care Director of major situations requiring management attention.
• Through knowledge of Office of Children and Family Services Regulations, YMCA of Greater Rochester procedures, rules, regulations, and guidelines, NAEYC (National Association for the Early Young Children) Compliance and branch regulations.
· Obtain and maintain high levels of quality programs and maintain all external and internal program requirements including the YMCA Child Care Standards, New York State Accreditation Standards/ School Age NY OCFS Regulations, [NAEYC, RCSD Universal Pre-K, Early Childhood, and United Way].
• Dispense all medication as regulated by OCFS regulations.
• Participate in required staff meetings, trainings and scheduled events.
• Expand job knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis.
• Maintain all OCFS and YMCA required training standards and certifications.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Center Director/ Executive Director.
Requirements
· Associates degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, or related fieldora CDA AND two years’ experience caring for children.
· Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
· Experience in a supervisor role.
· Demonstrated knowledge of various resources for programming ideas and the skills to utilize that information in directing daily activities.
· CPR/AED, First Aid and MAT certification required or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift
· Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally
· Must be able to lift 45 pounds occasionally
· Ability to supervise children by sight and sound at all times.
· Ability to move quickly to react to safety issues in the setting (i.e. aggressive behavior).
· Ability to move around the gym/field to assist children and supervise children with daily activities, social interaction, physical and emotional needs.
· Ability to work in all elements (i.e. outside in all weather)
· Ability to move from program site to branch or site to site, and is required to enter all YMCA environments including, program space, buses, schools, pools, and program area.
