General Statement of Duties
Duties include deed processing, platting, legal description reading and interpretation and property closure analysis.
Classification Summary
The principal function of an employee in this class is to update changes in ownership and monitor real property transfers and property descriptions in the County. Duties include deed processing, platting, legal description reading and interpretation and property closure analysis. The work involves reviewing deeds and subdivisions for accuracy, updating maps and parcel cards with current ownership. The work is performed under the supervision of the Mapping Supervisor, Chief Deputy, and Assessor. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Retrieves recorded documents.
Reviews and processes deeds and other legal documents influencing property ownership or descriptions.
Determines, posts, and segregates properties that have been sold and/or split.
Changes property ownership to assessor\'s records.
Processes forms as needed to apprise assessor staff and other interested parties of changes on plat books for ownership and legal descriptions.
Draws parcels digitally or by hand showing bearings, distances, ownership and geographical landmarks, if pertinent to the boundary of the property.
Maintains property companion sheets showing current property ownership.
Enters metes and bounds into appropriate records to ensure closure.
Reviews and ensures accuracy of legal descriptions.
Utilizes a variety of technical and computerized drafting/mapping tools.
Performs calculations and computations to determine and confirm accuracy of property closures as identified on legal documents.
Conducts research to remedy closure and/or ownership problems.
Maintains parcel master data on plats and files as needed to keep records current.
Plats new boundaries on splits, making new parcels and assigning new parcel numbers to
the newly split property.
Responds to general customer service requests; Creates and prints maps and copies for
Customers.
Keeps immediate supervisor fully and accurately informed concerning work progress,
including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of
addressing such problems.
Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate co-workers to maximize the
effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
Interacts with County employees, customers, visitors and the public effectively and
professionally.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Legal documents and terminology related to deeds, property descriptions, meets and bounds descriptions, and other specific and technical terminology.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Proof-reading and organizational skills and experience working in an office, preferably with property deeds and mapping.
Six (6) months general office experience preferred, or;
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Idaho Drivers License.
